Gérald Genta
In addition to his work as a freelance designer, Gérald Genta founded his eponymous brand, Gérald Genta, in 1969. The watches he created under this name were both uncompromisingly creative and technically ambitious. Born in Geneva in 1931, Genta is widely considered to be one of the most influential watch designers of the 20th century, responsible for iconic designs such as the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus. The company became renowned for its complicated movements, particularly watches featuring minute repeaters, grande sonneries, and retrograde displays. The best-known models include the sporty, robust Arena collection, as well as limited editions with playful, sometimes humorous designs, such as the Mickey Mouse watches. To this day, the Gérald Genta name remains synonymous with avant-garde design and technical masterpieces.
