PANERAI x SWISSWATCHES

FINE WATCHMAKING, HANDS-ON

Panerai is instantly recognisable. Its most ambitious mechanics are rarely seen. Beyond the familiar crown guard and sandwich dial lies another side of the Maison: tourbillons, perpetual calendars, minute repeaters, astronomical complications and LAB-ID innovation.

On 22 October, Panerai and Swisswatches will present a selection of these watches during a private, hands-on evening in Munich. Guests will examine them at close quarters and discover how Panerai approaches high complications on its own terms.

Places are strictly limited, and attendance is by confirmation only. Register your interest below.

MINUTE REPEATER

The Radiomir Minute Repeater Tourbillon PAM00600 extends this approach into sound. Its P.2005/MR calibre combines the tourbillon with three hammers and three gongs and can strike either local or home time. Instead of sounding the conventional quarter-hours, it counts the elapsed time in ten-minute intervals.

TOURBILLON

A conventional tourbillon rotates on an axis parallel to the balance wheel and generally completes one turn per minute. Panerai’s construction places the cage on an axis perpendicular to the balance and completes a rotation in 30 seconds.

The six-day P.2005/T calibre of the Luminor Tourbillon PAM01060 makes this architecture fully visible. The smaller P.2015/T inside the Radiomir Tourbillon Bronzo PAM01284 uses titanium bridges and offers a four-day power reserve.

ASTRONOMY & LAB-ID

ASTRONOMICAL TIME AND MECHANICAL LIGHT

L’Astronomo PAM00920 is made on demand and calibrated to geographical coordinates chosen by its owner. Its sunrise, sunset and moon-phase indications correspond to one specific location, while the skeletonised P.2005/GLS calibre combines an equation of time, GMT, a polarised date display and Panerai’s 30-second tourbillon.

The Submersible Elux LAB-ID PAM01800 takes a different direction. Four of its six barrels supply energy to a microgenerator that powers 160 micro-LEDs for up to 30 minutes. The remaining two barrels provide three days of timekeeping. The result is a fully mechanical watch that converts stored energy into electric light.

ANNUAL AND PERPETUAL CALENDARS

An annual calendar distinguishes between months with 30 and 31 days, requiring only one correction after February. In the Radiomir Annual Calendar PAM01364, Panerai integrates integrates the day, date and month into the familiar Radiomir architecture, powered by the automatic P.9010/AC calibre with a three-day power reserve.

The Luminor Perpetual Calendar GMT PAM01575 also accounts for leap years. Its day, date, month and year can be adjusted forwards or backwards through the crown, without separate correctors or tools. The month, year, leap-year cycle and power-reserve indication are displayed on the movement side, leaving the dial focused on the indications used every day.
