OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Professional
With its new model the watch manufacture OMEGA goes in to the very depth of the ocean in cooperation with the submersible pilot Victor Vescovo. The adeventurer reached the deepest point of the planet during his five deeps expedition with his submarine Limiting Factor having the Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Professional on his wrist.

OMEGA’s history is marked by diving watches, which supported scientists, pilots and divers during theoir missions. 1932 the first of these diving watches was presented: In the 1930’s the American scientist Charles William Beebe wore the OMEGA Marine during his historical 14-mile-dive. In the following decades the watch brand developed many further diving watches, which kept supporting pilots and sailors, as well as scientist and divers, like the free diver Jacques Mayol.
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Professional – the Five-Deeps-Expedition to the deepest point of the oceans
Now the brand produced a new professional diving watch, that resists the extreme circumstances in the deepest regions of our planet. The Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Professional is only 28 mm thick and though especially resistant. The bezel body, casebody, caseback and crown were machined cutoffs from the hull of the submarine Limiting Factor and this way have the characteristics and quality of the material. Similar to the viewport assembly on a submersible, the sapphire-to-case assembly on a full ocean depth watch is an area of concern. To spread the stress distribution and ensure a firm yet flexible sapphire-to-casebody assembly, OMEGA took inspiration from this loadbearing conical design and used liquid metal.
Other than that the new OMEGA watch is equipped with ‘Manta’-lugs. These are fully integrated into the titanium casebody and left open to lower the risk of exceeding material limitations at full ocean depth. The watch’s case back is adorned with the expedition logo, concentric circles evoking the Multi Beam sonar technology, as well as the model, the reference number, its materials, the DNV-GL certification, and the words ‘tested 15,000m / 49,212ft‘.
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Professional – In manufacturing the model the technicians were inspired by the submersible of the expedition.
OMEGA’s choice of strap material drew on the brand’s experience in space. The combination of polyamide strap and velcro closure is closely associated with the straps used during Apollo missions.
