Swiss watchmaker Christophe Claret has added a sixth edition to its Poker collection. The new watch comes in a 45 mm black PVD-treated grade 5 titanium case. Aside from telling the time, the 2020 Poker watch’s blue titanium dial allows three players to take part in a game of Texas Hold’em. Furthermore, the caseback features a functioning roulette wheel. Only 12 pieces of the colourful new edition are available.
The new Christophe Claret Poker has the most eye-catching dial of the collection. Aside from the blue PVD titanium dial itself, black PVD-treated titanium hour and minute hands provide 24/7 legibility thanks to their Super-LumiNova coating. Meanwhile, the hour indexes are on the bezel in order to keep a clear space for the game. The dial’s animated tokens, cards and casino tip are 3D in order to truly evoke a Texas Hold’em carpet.
The watch enables three users to play Texas Hold’em – a 52-card game. Each player has approximately the same chances of winning, as it integrates 32,768 different combinations. The game is operated by pushers on the side of the case. Pressing the Poker watch’s game pushers causes the cathedral gong to chime.
A pusher at 9 o’clock deals the first hand by winding up a spring that simultaneously spins four concentric discs − one of which made from sapphire − on which lie the cards. Then, dampers cause the discs to stop at random. The dealing of the now-shuffled cards take place in windows at 6 o’clock, 10:30 and 2:30. Angled shutters ensure the cards are invisible to the other players.
After this first betting round, the pusher at 10 o’clock reveals the ‘flop’ (three cards which appear on the left of the dial). Then, another push-piece at 8 o’clock then reveals the ‘turn’ (one card on the right of the dial). After this, the same push-piece deals out the ‘river’ (also on the right of the dial). Finally, the showdown follows.
Meanwhile, the 2020 Poker edition’s sapphire crystal caseback provides a second game feature; the oscillating winding rotor serves the purpose of a roulette wheel. Essentially, one or two shaking motions activates the roulette, causing it to turn for a few moments, before an arrow points to one of the 37 numbers on the inner ring. Furthermore, a special key opposite a green emerald set on the caseback sparks a feeling of good luck.
Finally, the movement powering Christophe Claret’s creation is the automatic-winding mechanical PCK05 calibre. The 38.9 mm movement equipped with a cathedral gong consists of 655 components and has 72 jewels. Furthermore, the Swiss lever escapement ensures a frequency of 4 Hz. Last but not least, the two mainspring barrels provide a 72-hour power reserve.
Presented on a black alligator strap, the Christophe Claret Poker 2020 edition is water-resistant to 30 m and costs 164,000 CHF.
