New Format, Proven DNA: Norqain Introduces the Independence Skeleton in 40 mm

Since its founding in 2018, Norqain has firmly established the Independence collection as a core part of its portfolio, positioned within the segment of high-performance, lightweight watches designed for sporting activities. Over the years, the collection has produced models distinguished by expressive colours, often bold designs, and equal technical significance for Norqain: in 2024, the range welcomed its first Independence Skeleton Chrono, which also marked the debut of a flyback chronograph calibre developed in collaboration with AMT – Sellita’s high-end division. At this year’s Watches and Wonders, the concept was further expanded with two new Skeleton Chrono models in violet and jade green, featuring vibrant cut-out motifs of mountain landscapes on both the front and reverse of the watch. Now, the collection gains two additional Independence Skeleton models – this time in a more compact 40 mm case size, aiming to appeal also to slimmer wrists. Here are the details of the new releases in Black DLC and stainless steel.

The Dial

Both new models, whether in Black DLC or stainless steel, feature an anthracite openworked dial with a transparent main plate, faceted indexes with black coating, as well as diamond-cut hour and minute hands, also coated in black. Both the indexes and hands are filled with white X1 Super-LumiNova to ensure optimal legibility even in poor lighting conditions. The only notable differences in the appearance of the two novelties are the tips of the seconds hands, which break up the otherwise dark aesthetic with an orange arrowhead on the DLC version and a turquoise arrowhead on the steel version, as well as the chronometer script in matching colours.

The Movement

At the heart of both Independence Skeleton models is the Norqain Calibre NB08S, itself based on the Sellita SW200-1a. The NB08S calibre, which is also used in the Skeleton models of the Wild One line, is a COSC-certified automatic movement offering a robust 41-hour power reserve and – of particular note – a skeletonised construction that can be admired not only from the front but also through the sapphire crystal caseback. With a design that exposes the mechanics of the movement, the Independence Skeleton models present their true allure: the wearer can follow the transmission of power, which starts from the energy stored in the barrel, is gradually released, sets the gear train in motion and ultimately reaches the escapement and balance wheel, which together regulate the precise running of the watch.

Norqain Independence Skeleton 40 mm: The Cases

The movement and dial are housed in a newly designed case, which, with its 40 mm diameter, is intended to make the Independence Skeleton especially attractive to those with slimmer wrists. The Black DLC model features a stainless steel case with a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating. This base material allows for brushed, polished and sandblasted finishes despite the coating. The second new model features a case crafted entirely from stainless steel. Both cases share not only the same diameter, but also a height of 12.05 mm and a lug-to-lug length of 46.30 mm. The true adventurous spirit of the Independence Skeleton remains intact even at 40 mm – underscored by the water resistance of both watches, which stands at an impressive 100 metres.

Straps and Pricing of Both Norqain Independence Skeleton 40 mm Models

The Black DLC variant is offered on either a khaki or black rubber strap – with the price remaining the same at €4,160, regardless of the strap option. The model with a full stainless steel case is available on either an anthracite rubber strap or a stainless steel bracelet, which is reflected in the pricing: €3,950 with the rubber strap, or €4,200 with the steel bracelet.
