Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Bronzo PAM00382 – Pure Vintage
A few weeks back we mentioned the Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Bronzo while introducing bronze watches at swisswatches. We now managed to get our hands on to a piece with very unique patina, which we found so thrilling that we dedicated it a little photo story.
Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Bronzo
The owner bought the Panerai Bronzo PAM 382 in 2011 just after it was launched in Geneva during SIHH watch fair. Ever since then he wore it constantly during his annual beach holidays. So the watch was faced with a lot of salt water and (sun-) heat. Two factors that have some decisive impact on the patina of bronze material. The result was that the watch very soon developed a green-shining discoloration just like you can sometimes spot it on old oxidised bells or cannons.
This process was to be expected but according to the owner it happened much faster then with similar bronze watches he owns. The reason might be the bronze that Panerai used for it’s Luminor Submersible 1950 Bronzo: ‘CuSn8’ bronze which is a special alloy of copper and pure tin. On the one hand very resistant against corrosion but on the other hand predestined for a unique patina.
The heavy corrosion is clearly visible
The growing discoloration harmonizes perfectly with the dark green dial, which in 2011 was a complete new colour in the Panerai history. For a brand that’s DNA is rooted in the world of sea and diving this vintage timepiece is the perfect proof for ultimate passion in watchmaking. Many thanks to it’s owner for this great experience!

Panerai Luminor Submersible: developed in 1950 for Egyptian Navy commandos (right)
By the way, this 2011 limited edition (1.000 pieces) was a newly developed remake of the 1950 watch that was developed for Egyptian Navy commandos. It would be even more interesting how one of these watches look today!
How come a German watch brand based in Glashütte near Dresden (Saxony) chooses the Tuscany capital Florence to present their novelty? Well first of all, it is not just any novelty – it is the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Rattranpante Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst, a highly fascinating and complex watch that embodies artistic craftsmanship. And "artistic…
Did you know that in regards to the world time-zones, the Russian capital Moscow recently has shifted one hour closer to Western Europe, being relocated to UTC+3 instead of UTC+4 as it has been for decades? And did you hear that Dubai now represents the time-zone instead of Riyadh, or Brisbane instead of Noumea? Some…
What makes the young Swiss brand and its new chrono so special? It was almost two years ago that I first stumbled across Norqain watches, while skiing in Switzerland – whether on posters in the winter sports resort, or on the advertising windows of the ski lifts. Since then, however, particularly as a close observer…

If A. Lange & Söhne is revered as Germany’s most formidable watch manufacture, the Lange 1 is, undoubtedly, its pièce de résistance. With A. Lange & Söhne having been founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, a small town in Germany that would become known as a centre for watchmaking, East Germany nationalised…

Fans of classic wristwatches always get their fill in spring and autumn, because in May and November, the biggest houses hold their auctions in Geneva. Some anniversaries are celebrated with confetti and champagne. Others mark their place in history with an event that redefines their own work. Vacheron Constantin chose the latter for its 270th birthday: the presentation of Les Cabinotiers Solaria Ultra Grande Complication – La Première. A unique piece, a supernova of watchmaking, a new world record for the…
If there is one certain field that always strives for new material to make their products lighter (and hence more performing) then it is that of racing cars. And if there is a watch brand that strives for these same goals then it must be Richard Mille. So it is quite obvious that both fields…
'Rule number one', declares Audemars Piguet CEO François-Henry Bennahmias, 'Is that the Royal Oak Concept is not your first watch.' Often described as a 'spaceship watch', it stands out for its thick, recognisable, and always balanced architecture. The horology house utilise this watch in order to invent and impress, often using overtly avant-garde design codes.…

Over at A. Lange & Söhne, this year’s Watches & Wonders highlight is unmissable. Last year, a huge model of the Odysseus Chronograph was installed at the Saxon manufacture's stand.
