Roger Dubuis to introduce a pioneering novelty at a never seen before venue
A famous Italian track near Sant’Agata Bolognese (not far from the Lamborghini headquarter) had been temporarily closed for us to be able to enjoy the adrenaline rush of some Lamborghini super cars (Huracán Performante and Aventador S)! But not enough – the gala dinner afterwards was held right in the middle of the production lines of Lamborghini! Once again we experienced a journey for a long time to remember.

The special occasion for this adventures rendezvous in North-Italy was Roger Dubuis and Lamborghinis novelty presentation resulting from their new collaboration: the Excalibur Aventador S. A watch which calibre is inspired by the Aventador S engine and the brand-new Huracán Super Trofeo EVO. Surely one of the best Italian performance car brands and a pioneer at the forefront of contemporary Swiss Haute Horlogerie have teamed up and shared all their individual skills in design and technology for a quite unique watch.

The resulting two models not only feature materials that are used for Lamborghini cars, but they also implemented visual elements from the engine! For the first time ever a multi-layered carbon and C-SMC carbon has been used on the orange-liveried watch (limited to 8 pieces).

Gravity Compensation System
One feature we want to point out especially: We would gently call Roger Dubuis a gravity hunter. A few years ago the brand introduced the Quatuor – equipped with four spiral balances and five differentials in one watch to minimize accuracy loss caused by gravity. The new Excalibur Aventador S has a Duotor which has been developed for this series exclusively. It’s simply the smaller version of the Quatuor, but with the same power! It is a world premiere, patented by Roger Dubuis and able to work more efficient then a tourbillon complication! With it’s four spiral balances and five differentials it runs with a frequency of 4×4 Hz (115’200 vph). The result: it makes this movement more precise and with an almost instant correction. It only takes a blink to compensate the speed fluctuations caused by gravity – for what a tourbillon needs one whole minute! That’s a striking achievement.

Just like the longitudinal placement of the Lamborghini engines tailored to the design of the streamlined car itself, the calibre has been shaped that same way. To enhance this view, the double balance wheel is inclined at a similar angle, supported and highlighted by holders shaped like triangular wheel suspension assemblies (see the picture).

To make it all more visible, it is easiest to see the similarities between car engine and watch calibre in our pictures: double triangle strut bars (picture left), engine cover décor (picture in the middle), differentials (picture right).

From spring 2018 onwards, Roger Dubuis will become one of the main sponsors of Lamborghini Super Trofeo (the legendary Lamborghini one-make series). Next to the Roger Dubuis new Excalibur Aventador S, Lamborghini’s brand-new Huracán Super Trofeo EVO (V10 engine, 620 hp) will hit the track.

Since its establishment in 1972, Porsche Design’s watch collection has been steadily growing. The 1919 Collection, which was first introduced in 2015, is dedicated to the Porsche car series. At the start of this year, Ulysse Nardin saw a change in its management. In February, the brand appointed Matthieu Haverlan as its new Managing Director. Having previously established a career with Hamilton and Jaeger-LeCoultre and been part of Ulysse Nardin as Chief Commercial Officer and Chief Growth Officer for more than seven years, Haverlan…
The new stars at Swiss watch-brand Carl F. Bucherer are not again Hollywood actors or sport enthusiasts as brands usually commit as ambassadors to represent their products, but 188 manta rays! The reason is mainly the brands support in The Manta Trust, a UK registered charity committed to protecting and ensuring the survival of manta rays…
The French language sounds just as pretty like a chanson from Edith Piaf. A rather uncharming word like ‘cow horns’ turns in French into an elegant ‘Cornes de Vache’. This example is not chosen by accident: it is the nickname of a very special watch from Vacheron Constantin, that in 1955 appeared by the simple…
As any watch enthusiast will know, it is often not just the aesthetic of a watch that enamours us: it's the story behind it. Cue the Reverso Travelling Collection, which is currently making a stop at Jaeger-LeCoultre's boutique on the prestigious shopping street Maximilianstrasse in Munich. The story behind the Reverso is a tale well-told,…
Amidst the sound of birds chattering and water splashing comes the sound of soft chimes, sounding repeatedly – almost as though someone was soulfully playing percussion, while wandering through tranquil surroundings. But it's not a musical instrument we can hear – it’s acoustic watches. Catherine Rénier, CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre, is playing us a video via…
It is one of the biggest privileges of our time: To have space to ourselves. To enjoy the wideness. To become one with nature, rather than bumping into masses of people in an overcrowded city. This is how life was long before the current world crisis, and will probably become an even bigger and more…
In a return to what the sumptuous luxury Swiss watch and jewellery maison does best, Piaget has once again merged art and horology with the release of the Andy Warhol Clou de Paris watch. While the manufacture is also respected for its remarkable ultra-thin watches and in-house production, Piaget is known above all for its artistic heritage.…
Discussing prices may be frowned upon in haute horlogerie, but taking a look at the figures helps to illustrate how wide the range is in the Patek Philippe portfolio, and how diverse the expectations of its clientele are for the annual novelties. In 2023, the price starts at 37,219 Swiss francs and ends at 4,264,995…
The watch brand Panerai experienced an enormous upswing in the past 20 years. Many don’t know that the Florentine brand was already established in 1887 and produces wristwatches since 1936, although in the beginning only for the Italian navy. In particular combat divers relied on the tough watches that needed to withstand the water pressure…
Sailing has played an important role for Panerai for a long time. In fact, involvement in the sport is pretty much in the brand's DNA. Wind, salty sea air, a longing for the ocean – all sum up the Luminor. But what is currently taking place off the coast of New Zealand, and what Panerai…
Piaget is one of those unusual brands that doesn’t only specialise in producing some of the highest quality watches available on the market, but also some of the finest jewellery. What’s more, the two areas of craftsmanship often unite, leading to Piaget’s reputation for producing some of the most interesting and creative luxury timepieces in…
The Wempe Signature Collection was borne out of a desire for the Hamburg-based luxury retailer to take the leap from founding its own watch production almost 20 years ago, to becoming an internationally coveted collector's brand with limited special models. Will it succeed? Time will tell. Either way, the collection serves as an ode to…
