Tissot PR 516 Automatic Chronograph: Racing Spirit Meets Modern Chronograph
Building on the momentum of its celebrated PRX and PR 516 collections, Tissot introduces the PR 516 Automatic Chronograph – a timepiece that harmonizes retro-inspired design with a contemporary chronograph. Drawing inspiration from the iconic 1970s PR 516 racing chronograph, this latest iteration showcases a 41mm case, automatic Valjoux movement, and a sleek white and blue dial. while incorporating the advancements demanded by today’s watch wearers.
Tissot PR 516 Automatic Chronograph: Case
The case of the Tissot PR 516 Automatic Chronograph measures 41mm in diameter and features a brushed and polished finish. The steel bezel is equipped with a blue mineral glass tachymeter/pulsometer insert, adding to the watch’s sporty character. The height is around 14mm, slightly thicker than the manual version due to the automatic movement. The pushers have a classic pump design and the crown is knurled, ensuring a good grip. The water resistance is rated at 100 meters, making it suitable for recreational swimming. Overall, the case offers a robust appearance, in line with the watch’s racing heritage.
Tissot PR 516 Automatic Chronograph: Dial
The dial of the Tissot PR 516 Automatic Chronograph is a clean white, providing a stark contrast to the blue accents. The minute track is also in blue, adding a pop of colour to the otherwise minimalist design. The chronograph sub-dials are outlined in blue and positioned in a tri-compax layout, with the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, the small seconds at 9 o’clock, and the 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. The hour and minute hands are baton-shaped and coated with Super-LumiNova, ensuring readability in low light conditions. A notable detail is the blue stem for the hands, which matches the blue central seconds hand and the sub-dial hands. Overall, the dial is functional and legible, with a few design elements that nod to the watch’s vintage inspiration.
Tissot PR 516 Automatic Chronograph: Movement
Inside the Tissot PR 516 Automatic Chronograph ticks the Valjoux A05.231 movement, an automatic chronograph based on the Valjoux 7753. This movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of 68 hours. The chronograph is operated via a cam system. The transparent case back provides a view of the movement, complete with the Tissot logo on the rotor. The overall finishing remains industrial and in line with the workhorse status of the Valjoux 7753.
Tissot PR 516 Automatic Chronograph: Strap
The Tissot PR 516 Automatic Chronograph comes with a multi-link steel bracelet that features an integrated butterfly clasp. The bracelet is robust and complements the watch’s sporty character. The quick-release push pins make it easy to change the bracelet if desired. However, there is no option for a leather strap or NATO strap, which could have added an alternative, more casual look to the watch.
Tissot PR 516 Automatic Chronograph: Price and Availability
The Tissot PR 516 Automatic Chronograph is now available. The price is set at 2,145 euros. This puts the watch in a competitive price range for an automatic chronograph with a Valjoux movement. Tissot’s pricing strategy remains attractive, especially considering the quality and features offered.
