AkriviA AK06 – A strong bond beetween the Artisan and Watch
We don’t know which fancy name drew more attention to us first: “Rexhep Rexhepi” or “AkriviA”. The former is the name of a young and very ambitious watchmaker. The latter is the unmistakable name of his 2012-founded watch brand AkriviA, which is based in Geneva and describes its core philosophy as “to present the finest traditions of haute horlogerie combined with novel and fresh shapes for those who know and love pure mechanical forms”. Sounds very ambitious. It is!
AkriviA Tourbillon Chiming Jump Hour 1
The word AkriviA means “precision” in ancient Greek and Rexhep Rehepi’s goal is to unite the heritage of the Geneva watchmaking tradition with a contemporary approach that interprets timekeeping for the 21st century. His first series for AkriviA solely consists of Tourbillon timepieces. A very high goal! But he has already proven its mastery of the highest level of watchmaking history and tradition.
The AkriviA Tourbillon Barrette-Miroir
Although Rexhep Rexhepi only started AkriviA in 2012 he already moved into a 250 square meter showroom near the centre of Geneva and expanded his team to five people – Rexhep being the master watchmaker. His brother also just joined. By the way, Rexhep’s watchmaking past is remarkable: at the age of 14 already he finished an apprenticeship at Patek Philippe and at the age of only 25, after his experience at Fancois-Paul Journe (F.P. Journe watches) he already founded his own brand.

His newest creation is not another Tourbillon complication, yet another very personal way to express Rexhep’s passion for complex watches. For Rexhep, the most intimate moment is the act of winding the watch up. “This is the moment when human energy is literally ‘given’ to the movement, making it come alive”, Rexhep says. So the new AK-06 showcases the power reserve and hand setting mechanism, allowing all the mechanical parts involved in these functions to be visually interactive for the user. What a wonderful play between emotion and action for the owner of this watch! And what a wonderful reward for the watchmaker seeing his work of art come alive. Because the way of watchmaking at AkriviA is almost unique! Here each watchmaker masters all steps to make his timepiece – finishing and decorating each component by hand! It requires a high artisanal talent to work at AkriviA since not many watchmakers in the world are able to accomplish all professions to make a watch.

For us, Rexhep Rexhepi is a unique and outstanding young watchmaker whose work must be highly respected. For him it is not enough that a movement in it’s complexity is just working, he also loves the mechanical symmetry: “… the movement architecture, the curves of bridges, their visual balance and placement, size and proportion, everything has to be a united concept… the micro machine has to be beautiful in every way, on the outside and on the inside, in the places you can see as well as the places you cannot” he adds. We look forward to all the future projects of this young watchmaking architect / genius.
We very well remember the first time spotting tennis genius Raphael Nadal wearing an obvious big watch during matches. And not only for a soft warm up but during speedy rallies in his familiar aggressive style. How can this be comfortable? Nadal was not wearing an average steel case watch but a dedicated high-tech time-‘machine’…
Travelling - it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller. Ibn Battuta The premiere of the Richard Mille Rally A'Shira from 16 to 21 October in Saudi Arabia can hardly be put into words. Echoing the description by 14th-century Muslim scholar Ibn Battuta, I was struck speechless by the vast expanse of the…
In Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, the King gives the White Rabbit some sage advice for storytelling: ‘Begin at the beginning,’ the King said gravely, ‘and go on till you come to the end: then stop.’ That’s exactly the plan for this ultimate yet digestible guide to the Rolex Submariner. Rather than filling this space…
First of all: the general image of the Swiss watch brand Blancpain could not be more different. The layman would probably never link Blancpain to sports watches, whereas for most connoisseurs, the ‘Fifty Fathoms’ is the epitome of the modern diving watch. At this point, some might frown doubtfully. Yet, it was all caused by…
The Swiss watch manufacture celebrated a summer festival of superlatives on the trendy Mediterranean island of Mykonos. This summer, Omega celebrated 75 years of the Seamaster, honouring the anniversary of the model with the introduction of no fewer than eleven new timepieces. With each and every piece coming in a distinctive shade of blue, the watches…
July 14, 2016, was a particularly memorable day for Yves Piaget, the fourth and final direct descendant of the founding family of the eponymous watch and jewellery manufacture. For the launch of the Piaget Polo S, he returned to the place where he caused a sensation with a spectacular campaign in 1985, when he was…
A well-trained opera singer is able to cause a tuning fork to vibrate simply by the power of their voice. The tuning fork absorbs the energy, and strives to vibrate at the same frequency. Should the tuning fork be interrupted by an external factor, it always tries to get back in line with its counterpart.…
There is always some anniversary to be celebrated in the watch industry. And although the history of Montblanc watches is comparatively young, the Hamburg based brand yet already celebrates a very special anniversary – Minerva turns 160 years. The Maison was founded 1858 by Charles-Yvan Robert in Villeret and was acquired by Montblanc in 2007.…
Sailing has played an important role for Panerai for a long time. In fact, involvement in the sport is pretty much in the brand's DNA. Wind, salty sea air, a longing for the ocean – all sum up the Luminor. But what is currently taking place off the coast of New Zealand, and what Panerai…
The history of Cartier's world-renowned horological creations spans well over a century. However, the Cartier Ballon Bleu de Cartier is still a relatively new addition. Since its release in the 2000s, it's become one of the most-loved unisex watches out there – particularly for women looking to break away from stagnant, over-marketed watch designs. As…
BY FRED S. MANDELBAUM There has been some controversy among collectors if that widely quoted birthyear 1952 was correct - it may be the year the design work on the Navitimer began, but all available evidence points to 1954 as the year mass production started - although its roots lead much deeper into BREITLING's history. The…
From the picturesque La Côte-aux-Fées with its lush green pastures to the dazzling fashion capital of Paris – within 150 years, the watchmaking workshop founded by Georges-Édourard Piaget on his family’s farm has come a long way. The modern-day Breitling chronograph dates back to 1983, when it was first conceived for the aerobatic squadron of the Italian Air Force, "Frecce Tricolori". One year later, upon the 100 year anniversary of Breitling, the Chronomat was produced as a series for the first time, in the form of the Ref. 81950. It was distinguished…
