Contemporary and independent watchmaker Ressence has sold its unique timepiece, created in collaboration with Sotheby’s, of the #WatchesAgainstCovid19 competition. The winning watch, Raymond Ramsden’s Type 1 Slim “Artyon & Finlay”, sold for 45,500 Swiss francs, and was purchased by an online bidder.

The auction took place on 11 July, 2020, at Sotheby’s Hong Kong ‘Important Watches’. The famous auction offered a range of over 300 watches, from vintage watches to contemporary pieces. The “Artyon & Finlay” watch’s selling price at auction was more than two times the price of a regular Type 1 Slim, which usually cost 18,100 Swiss francs.

Ressence’s collaborative timepiece with Sotheby’s is a result of the #WatchesAgainstCovid19 design competition. The watch, amongst other things, celebrates human values and the dedication of key workers throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Now, all proceeds from the watch will go towards the KU Leuven University’s Covid-19 research programme. The funds will help to accelerate the development of research lines – both those aimed at preventive protection and advanced detection as well as new molecular treatments designed for seriously ill patients.
