Popping pastels and vacation vibes; Breitling’s new SuperOcean Heritage ’57 Pastel Paradise Capsule Collection for women actually stems from a 1950s diver’s watch for men. Now, however, it has transformed into a high quality, incredibly fashionable new timepiece. With the introduction of this series, Breitling is proving itself to be truly with the times, not to mention perfectly in sync with public demand and trends.
Breitling is dubbing its new watches “Pastel Paradise” – and you can see why. The dreamy colour options, playfully named “summer white”, “aquamarine”, “mint green”, and “iced latte” give off ice-cream and poolside vibes to see you frolicking through a heatwave in style. While many might first think of the more low-key gentlemen’s models upon hearing the name SuperOcean, the watches have gained a whole new personality with this dynamic new series.
The story of the Breitling SuperOcean Heritage
Throughout the 1950s, there was more interest in aquatic sports and exploration than ever before. Timing instruments became increasingly necessary. In 1957, Breitling’s SuperOcean entered the scene in the form of at the sporty chrono Ref. 807 and the more elegant Ref. 1004, aimed at gentlemen wanting an attractive watch that could be taken to the beach. Both were water-resistant to an impressive 200 metres. From the very beginning, style and functionality were of the utmost importance – and these new SuperOcean Heritage models undoubtedly provide both more than ever before.
Where to wear the SuperOcean Heritage ’57 Pastel Paradise
First and foremost, these are watches for the beach. As CEO Georges Kern states, “This modern-retro tribute to the original SuperOcean is an exciting addition to the Breitling family of ladies’ watches. Of course it’ll look great at work, but its fun-in-the-sun vibe might make you want to spend a weekend at the beach.”
Many will have noticed that one clear sign of life returning to normal is the return to fashionable clothes. Heels are coming out of closets, and many of us are slowly squeezing back into jeans. Breitling’s SuperOcean Heritage models are incredibly tempting options to pair with new outfits purchased ahead of the summer that we all deserve. Additionally, the timepieces are even more flexible thanks to the inclusion of Breitling’s quick-exchange system. The wearer can switch up the matching Saffiano calfskin leather straps for another colour, including two additional summery straps; “lemon” or “raspberry sorbet”.
The new series of watches feature tone-on-tone dials, bezels, and straps (aside from the rainbow version with its colourful indices). This two-tone look gives the watches a minimalist aesthetic. Therefore, despite the bright colour schemes, they are easy to pair with vibrant summer outfits. Additionally, while the focus is all about summer, these are, in my opinion, still all-year-round, everyday pieces. The laidback design means that the watches would pair well with a jumper and jeans in winter, for example.
Quality is key
There’s another reason that the Pastel Paradise Capsule Collection is beach ready. According to the brand, the company’s ladies’ watches “are made for active women who know exactly what they want.” These models seem to say just that, from the playful colour schemes to the excellent mechanics inside. Furthermore, let’s not forget these are first and foremost iconic diving watches. Therefore, they offer water-resistance to 100 m – more than enough for exploring a coral reef. Each version features an avant-garde looking stainless-steel bidirectional bezel with a matching ceramic ring. Meanwhile, the case measures 38 mm in diameter and 9.35 mm in height. The steel watches’ dials also feature highly legible, bold indices. Furthermore, Super-LumiNova in the hands and hour markers mean the watch genuinely can dive into the deep.
Powering the Breitling SuperOcean Heritage for women is the manufacture’s Calibre 10. This self-winding movement offers a power reserve of 42 hours and beats at an equally respectable 4 Hz. Keeping things simple, it provides hours, minutes, and seconds. Furthermore, the chronometer certificate should not go unmentioned, which among other things guarantees high precision.
The Pastel Paradise Capsule Collection: The Verdict
Many in the watch world are aware that women with an interest in horology sometimes struggle with dated, diamond-covered designs and garish colours – accompanied by prosaic campaigns and a beige-dressed woman’s wrist. By contrast, the vibrant marketing of the SuperOcean Heritage ’57 Pastel Paradise Capsule Collection is almost like a beauty advert. This is no bad thing. The vivacious women modelling the new pieces look as fresh and cool as the watches themselves.
Breitling’s fashionable yet indisputably high quality new SuperOcean Heritage for women proves that the brand is truly in touch with what women want, and to conclude our review, I for one am highly impressed with the results. The models, which cost 4,350 euros, also take a bold step away from the more typical, darker palettes of many of Breitling’s watches.
The SuperOcean Heritage ’57 Pastel Paradise Capsule Collection may therefore unlock a new clientele, not to mention make a perfect present for any woman looking for a laidback, chic timepiece by a reputable brand. The new watches are only going to be produced for a limited time, and they’re likely to get snapped up fast – we can only hope that these refreshingly cool, contemporary models make a colourful comeback next summer, too.
Zenith is relaunching its legendary A386 as the Chronomaster Original, giving it a permanent place in the collection. The original Zenith A386 was one of the first stainless-steel watches to be equipped with the El Primero calibre. This was the first automatic chronograph movement to use a high frequency of 5 Hz. Before considering the best green dial watches of 2024 thus far, let's start with some context. Historians have long defined different eras through time frames containing common characteristics. In the watch world, to give an obvious example, you could say that the pocket watch era spanned from the 16th to 20th century. Meanwhile, the birth…
The world of hypercars is characterised by superlatives disguised as numbers. The McLaren Speedtail is no exception: from 1,050 over 403 and 1,430 to 2.37. In other words, from 1,050 horsepower over 403 km/h top speed and 1,430 kilograms weight to a unit price of 2.37 million euros – plus extras. In this world, as…
There is always some anniversary to be celebrated in the watch industry. And although the history of Montblanc watches is comparatively young, the Hamburg based brand yet already celebrates a very special anniversary – Minerva turns 160 years. It was in 1972 when Ferdinand Alexander Porsche decided to establish a design company for watches (and other products) after he retired from the operating business at Porsche. Ever since he has been a designer, not only was it him who developed the 911, but he was also in charge of all design aspects of…
It is one of the biggest privileges of our time: To have space to ourselves. To enjoy the wideness. To become one with nature, rather than bumping into masses of people in an overcrowded city. This is how life was long before the current world crisis, and will probably become an even bigger and more…
Whereas many brands of traditional mechanical watchmaking try to adopt new smart technology approaches, the renowned Maison Vacheron Constantin holds on to classical values. Initially debuted in 1979, the Piaget Polo 79 has been a big talking point for us at Swisswatches ever since its revival last year, as reported on in great detail by my colleague Nico Bandl. It is a beautiful watch – and an undeniably grand watch, available up until now, true to the original, in…

Sailing has played an important role for Panerai for a long time. In fact, involvement in the sport is pretty much in the brand's DNA. Wind, salty sea air, a longing for the ocean – all sum up the Luminor. But what is currently taking place off the coast of New Zealand, and what Panerai…
"Ergonomic: [adjective] relating to or designed for efficiency and comfort in the working environment." The new chronograph models, available in steel, pink…

The incredible hype surrounding the Nautilus and the recently introduced olive-green Reference 5711/1A-014 is what it is. Likewise, excitement for Patek's "Grandes Complications" is very much understandable. However, it is the Calatrava collection, with its classical appeal and versatile wearability, that stands for far more than the (price) entry into the world of Patek Philippe.…
