OMEGA has introduced a Certificate of Authenticity for its watches that are over 30 years old. With the introduction, the Swiss watchmaker hopes to achieve more transparency for customers looking to buy a vintage OMEGA timepiece. The cost of the verification is 880€.
In order to gain the certificate, any original OMEGA watch can be left in the hands of specified OMEGA boutiques, or even the company’s headquarters in Biel. A team of experts with wide access to the horology house’s archives then analyse and test the watch. This allows them to verify the authenticity of the timepiece and approve the issuing of a Certificate of Authenticity.
Furthermore, the new OMEGA Certificate of Authenticity differs from the existing so-called ‘Extract of the Archives’ (costs 120€), which supplies the specifications of the model in question. By contrast, the Certificate of Authenticity provides extended information on the authenticity of the watch in its current condition at the time of the expertise.
Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA, commented, “Our ambition is to create more trust for OMEGA watches within the vintage and pre-owned sector and help to grow confidence for people who are new to the buying market. For the owners of the watches, it’s a way to add some official assurance when selling, and also add some value to their timepieces.”
