SIHH 2019: Panerai Submersible BMG-Tech 47 mm – PAM00799
At the watch fair SIHH in the beginning of this year, the Italian brand Panerai presented one of its most innovative new models. The Submersible BMG-TECH (Ref. PAM00799) is mainly characterized by its combination of the materials BMG-TECH and Carbotech. The case of the professional diving watch has a diameter of 47 mm.
The new model’s case is entirely made of BMG-TECH, a bulk metallic glass, which is obtained from a particular glass-like alloy in a very special process. This alloy is consisting of zirconium, copper, aluminium, titanium and nickel. It is subjected to high pressure injection at a high temperature and then cooled for just a few seconds. This way, the substantial crystallization can be prevented and the atoms can not assume a regular, orderly structure, as normally happens in crystals. This structure creates higher stability and optimized resistance to corrosion, external shocks, and magnetic fields. The unidirectional rotating bezel is made of carbotech, a robust, but still light material on the base of carbon fibres. In the production the carbon fibres are applied layer after layer in different directions, so that new striped patterns form. This gives all pieces made of carbotech an individual design.

The indications on the dial of the Panerai Submersible BMG-TECH are covered with two different types of Super-LumiNova, which allows easy reading of the time and the duration of a diving session with the reference points in all lighting conditions. The dial of the model is polished black and has a small seconds and a date indication. The watch’s strap is made of black rubber.
The movement of the Panerai Submersible BMG-TECH is the P.9010 automatic calibre with a power reserve of three days. It consists of 200 components and 31 jewels. With a diameter of 133⁄4 lignes and a thickness of 6 mm it is relatively small. The balance, fixed by a bridge with twin supports, oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and is connected to a stopping device which is activated when the winding crown is pulled out, enabling the watch to be synchronized with a reference signal. The hours can be adjusted without interfering with the running of the minute hand, due to the device which moves the hour hand independently forwards or backwards in one-hour jumps. The model is water-resistant to 300 meters or 30 bar.
