SIHH 2019: Panerai Submersible Carbotech 47 mm and 42 mm
At this years watch fair SIHH in Geneva, Panerai introduced two new diving watches with Carbotech. Carbotech is a material based on carbon fibre. Especially due to its lightness in comparison to steel or titanium and its resistance to external shocks and corrosion Panerai now uses this carbon fibre based material for producing professional diving watches. Due to the manufacturing of the carbon fibers, which are applied precisely layer after layer in different orientations, an individual structure develops, that basically make each watch a unique piece.

Both new models are water-resistant to a depth of 300 meters or 30 bar and fitted with a rotating bezel for calculating the duration of each dive. The dial and the characteristic stripes of the carbotech case are black. The hour markers are covered with Super-LumiNova, ensuring visibility under all lighting conditions – as well in complete darkness – in normal situations as well as underwater. To avoid any possible ambiguity in reading the watch underwater, the luminous substance used on the minute and hour hands and on the marker at 12 o’clock emits a green light, instead of blue used on all other markers. The strap is made of robust, black rubber with the OP logo in contrasting blue. The trapezoidal buckle is personalised with the Panerai lettering and made of titanium with black DLC coating. Due to its stability the strap is ideal for diving.

The models are also equipped with different in-house movements. The PAM01616 has the P.9010 calibre. The 42 mm sized PAM006960 is operated by the smaller OP XXXIV calibre. Both models though have a power reserve of three days, a date indication at 3 o’clock and a small seconds indication at 9 o’clock.
