Don’t get wound up by the new Richard Mille – RM030 Blue Ceramic EMEA Limited Edition
Whenever Raphael Nadal sweeps across the court for hours again while wearing his Richard Mille watch, the sportsman doesn’t have to care any longer about damage that might be caused by overwinding. Thanks to Richard Milles newest invention: a declutching rotor system. Given that the Richard Mille testimonial already owns one of the only 100 pieces of the new Blue Ceramic that have been produced.
The calibre RMAR1 with a declutching rotor system
Not long ago we introduced the Richard Mille RM035 Ultimate Edition. Yet the brand, which is mainly famous for their art of engineering, has launched another high-tech timepiece and solved a headache-causing problem for watchmakers. The limited RM030 Blue Ceramic EMEA is equipped with the new calibre RMAR1 with a declutching rotor system, which prevents the watch from overwinding.
In sight – at 9 o’clock you can check the remaining power
To explain what’s behind this, it gets little tricky. The winding of a wristwatch is accomplished by a small rotor, which turns as a result of the physical movement of the wearer. These rotations of the rotor puts energy to the winding barrel, winds up a dedicated spring and will sooner or later reach its maximum. Now it is fully wound up. Traditionally, to beware it from overwinding a sliding flange allows the spring to slip. Disadvantage is, that this system might help to build up harmful debris inside the barrel, as the flange releases the excess energy of overwinding during longer periods.
The RM Blue Ceramic is limited to 100 pieces
Richard Mille found a simple but genius solution to eliminate this problem! They designed a rotor that declutches automatically. The winding barrel disconnects from the rotor’s winding mechanism at the moment when the spring is fully wound. When the power reserve reaches 50 hours, the rotor is declutched. When it decreases to 40 hours, the rotor will clutch and the watch starts winding again. At 12 o’clock on the dial you can check whether the rotor is winding or not with the ‘on’ and ‘off’ indicators. At 9 o’clock you can check the remaining power reserve.
Time consuming – just the blue ceramic case takes 30 hours of work
The limited timepiece is now available with a blue ceramic case, which again is extremely solid and nearly scratch-resistant. Just the case requires more than 255 tooling operations and takes 30 hours craftsmanship. Nearly all parts of the watches are made of high-tech materials to make it solid and extra-light at the same time.
Richard Mille RM030 Blue Ceramic EMEA
The EMEA stands for Europe, Middle East and Africa – the regions where the RM030 Blue Ceramic will be on sale for 163.500,- Euro per watch.
In 2017, OMEGA introduced a series of new watches from their popular Seamaster Aqua Terra collection. To pay a special tribute to them, OMEGA hosted a glamorous gala-dinner at the prestige Palazzo Pisani Moretta in Venice, the place where the Seamaster history began. The Palazzo Pisani Moretta in Venice Not everyone is aware of the…
During our last conversation about six months ago, Panerai CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué surprised us with his ambitious intention to launch a 100 percent recycled mechanical watch. Now, shortly prior to the unveiling of the brand's latest pieces at Watches & Wonders 2021, we caught up with him once again. There was one key question to…
The Dragon is the fifth of the 12-year cycle of animals appearing in the Chinese calendar’s zodiac. It’s an important one, too. The Year of the Dragon is largely seen as one of the most powerful, lucky years in the Chinese zodiac, symbolising strength, fortune and success. From Shanghai to London’s Chinatown, people around the world recently…

The watch industry has something of a penchant for superlatives, but it would be no exaggeration to say that this is, in many ways, the most exciting new product of the year: the Patek Philippe Cubitus. For the manufacture, it is the first new watch collection in a quarter of a century – the predecessor…
The decade of the 1950s was a crucial period for music – and it was also a golden age for watchmaking. Cliff Richards produced his first songs in the notorious Abbey Road Studios as did the Beatles little later. Vacheron Constantin introduced their first automatic watch (Ref. 6073) in 1956 which today lives on in…
The most important company and watch model anniversaries in 2025 and a (critical) look at the watch industry this coming year. Normally, we like to hold back on speculation at Swisswatches – and for good reason. The watch industry and the pre-owned watch market have experienced a surge in attention over the last five years,…
Automatons remain something of an obscure phenomenon in our fast, technology driven world of AI and mass production. Even more little-known is the atelier of François Junod, which perches high atop the village of Sainte-Croix in Switzerland’s Jura mountains. However, a twist of fate recently propelled this already renowned workshop yet deeper into the world…
Exactly 100 years ago, in the year 1921, Louis Charles Breguet shared his ambitious vision to introduce airplanes that could reach an altitude of up to 13,500 meters and complete the distance from Paris to New York within six hours. Louis Breguet, great-great-grandson of Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747–1823), wanted to make air travel possible for as…

The incredible hype surrounding the Nautilus and the recently introduced olive-green Reference 5711/1A-014 is what it is. Likewise, excitement for Patek's "Grandes Complications" is very much understandable. However, it is the Calatrava collection, with its classical appeal and versatile wearability, that stands for far more than the (price) entry into the world of Patek Philippe.…
Has Bond always worn OMEGA? Ever since the release of Dr. No in 1962, James Bond has both thrilled us and gained our admiration – as have his many watches. Seiko, Hamilton, Rolex, Breitling, and Heuer (as TAG Heuer was then known) have all graced the wrist of the world’s favourite British spy. However, this…
