Back in January at Dubai’s LVMH 2020 watch fair, watch manufacturer Zenith introduced several new models created in cooperation with a number of acknowledged artists and brands. One model was developed in partnership with British automotive manufacturer Land Rover and pays homage to its Defender: the new DEFY 21 Land Rover Edition.
At the same time as Land Rover launched its newly revised and significantly more high-tech Defender, Zenith presented a new interpretation of its El Primero high frequency chronograph, aiming to combine resilience and comfort in the same way as the world-renowned British car manufacturer.
The design of the new chronograph is understated and minimalist. Its micro-blasted titanium case absorbs light from all angles, emphasizing the case’s faceted surfaces. The closed matte grey dial of the recently released model matches the 44 mm flat grey case. It features imprinted hour indices plus anthracite-colored hands, both of which are filled with Super-LumiNova.
The DEFY 21 Land Rover Edition is presented on a grey rubber strap with a micro-blasted titanium folding clasp and also comes with a second ‘country’ fabric strap.
The Defender-inspired timepiece offers an indication of the hundredths of a second and – for the first time in a DEFY – has a linear power reserve window with colourful details for improved readability. The watch has a small second display at 9 o’clock, a central chronograph hand, a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a 60-second counter at 6 o’clock.
The DEFY 21 Land Rover Edition is powered by the self-winding calibre El Primero 9004, which offers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. The watch is limited to 250 pieces and is priced at 13,700 euros.
