Gérald Genta Gentissima Oursin Fire Opal: A Flamboyant New Addition
Gérald Genta has unveiled a new watch in its Gentissima Oursin collection. The Gentissima Oursin Fire Opal features a case adorned with fire opals and an orange carnelian dial. This watch is a tribute to Gérald Genta and his creative vision, inspired by the sea urchins he sketched on holiday in Corsica. Let’s take a closer look at this extravagant timepiece.
Case
The case of the Gentissima Oursin Fire Opal measures 36.5mm in diameter and 9.64mm in thickness. It is made of 3N yellow gold with a glass-blasted finish, giving it a matte appearance. The most striking feature is the wide, rounded bezel that holds 137 Mexican fire opals, each individually screwed to the case with a yellow gold pin. The crown is also set with a fire opal and has eight rounded gold studs that match the pins. The sapphire crystal on the front has eight facets that form a dynamic octagon, a signature shape for Gérald Genta.
Dial
The dial of the Gentissima Oursin Fire Opal is made of vibrant orange carnelian. It features yellow gold dots for the 5-minute markers and gold hands with luminescent inlays. The warm tones of the carnelian complement the fire opals on the bezel and enhance the overall aesthetic of the watch. The flat dial is contrasted by the faceted sapphire crystal, which adds depth and dimension to the time display. The combination of materials and colours reflects Gérald Genta’s artistic vision and attention to detail.
Movement
Inside the Gentissima Oursin Fire Opal is the GG-005 movement, based on the Zenith Elite. This automatic movement has a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. It consists of 126 components and has a diameter of 25.6mm and a thickness of 3.65mm. What makes this movement special is the octagonal rotor made of 18-carat yellow gold. The rotor features applied gold studs that match the theme of the watch. The movement provides hours and minutes and is visible through the transparent case back.
Strap
The Gentissima Oursin Fire Opal comes with a black alligator leather strap. The strap adds a touch of elegance and luxury to the watch and ensures a snug fit on the wrist. It is equipped with a yellow gold pin buckle that secures the watch.
Price and Availability
The Gentissima Oursin Fire Opal is a limited edition watch. It will be available in May 2025. However, the price of the watch has not been disclosed and is available upon request.
