Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept: This Unique Piece Celebrates The Birth of The Collection
Piaget is celebrating the history of the Altiplano Ultimate Concept with a unique piece. Until recently, the ultra-flat watch from 2018 was considered the flattest mechanical watch in the world. But then, on the occasion of Watches & Wonders 2022, Bulgari presented the Octo Finissimo Ultra, which has been leading the field ever since. Nonetheless, Piaget is now presenting this special edition, which recalls the creation of the model with a number of special details.
The (Formerly) Flattest Case in The World
The case of the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept measures just 2 mm in height and consists of a cobalt alloy. The diameter is 41 mm. Both the bezel and the case back and lugs are satin-finished, contrasting with the polished middle section. The crown is integrated directly into the case and ensures water resistance up to 2 bar.
The Front Recalls The Creation of The Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept
The unique piece wants to tell the story of the Altiplano. To this end, there are a few details on the front. First of all, the off-centre dial bears a Piaget logo in historic script. This recalls the logo above the manufacture in La Côte-aux-Fée. In addition, two enlarged circles on the minute track indicate the time 7:47, which is when the escapement of the Altiplano of 2017 performed its first beat. The date of the event is also given at 2:30.
Furthermore, on the ratchet wheel at 6 o’clock it says “La Côte-aux-Fées”. The watchmakers also engrave the coordinates of the manufacture in the metal. The highlight, however, is the starry sky around the mechanical parts, illuminated with Super-LumiNova to represent the constellation on 7 February 2017 at 7:47, the birthday of the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept.
The Mechanics of The Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept
The 167 components of the manufacture calibre 900P-UC sit inside the slender case. The movement offers a power reserve of 40 hours, which comes in by hand. The escapement operates at a frequency of 4 hertz and is clearly visible at 9 o’clock. Last but not least, the watchmakers decorate the movement with angled, sunburst guilloché and satin-brushed bridges. The wheels have satin-brushed circular patterns or else a sunburst finish.
Price & Availability of The Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept
The watch appears on a dark blue alligator leather strap with a pin buckle that measures only 1.5 mm in height. A blue textile strap is also in the box. The price of this unique piece is only available on request
