Les Rééditions: The Cartier Tank Cintrée in Platinum
Cartier is introducing a platinum version of its Tank Cintrée, in a special edition that makes up part of the brand’s Les Rééditions.Les Rééditions are sought-after watches that Cartier creates with its collectors in mind. Following re-editions such as the Pasha Calendrier Perpétuel and last year’s Pebble watch, this 2023 piece makes a return to the Tank Cintrée. The Tank Cintrée is the first known evolution of the original Tank of 1917, appearing in 1921 and establishing the rectangle in the world of Tank shapes as a result of research into aesthetics and function.
The case
Thanks to the curves and slenderness of its elongated case, the new platinum watch with its new 6.03 mm height elegantly hugs the wrist. As is always the case for Cartier’s platinum models, the beaded crown is set with a ruby within a cabochon. Cartier introduce interplay on the watch’s brancards, with polished vertical brancards and matte horizontal ones. The choice of platinum for this Les RééditionsTank Cintrée is particularly meaningful given that the special edition celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Tank Cintrée watch in platinum.
The dial
Featuring the fine aesthetics of the typical Tank, the new platinum edition of the Tank Cintrée has an ‘eggshell’-colour dial alongside rail tracks, Roman numeral hour markers, and pomme-shaped blued hands that contrast nicely with the ruby. Mineral glass protects the Art Deco dial.
The movement
Meanwhile, the mechanical movement powering the special model is the calibre 9780 MC. This automatic calibre has a 33 hour power reserve and a frequency of 3 Hz.
Strap, price and availability
Last but not least, the new platinum Les RééditionsTank Cintrée watch comes with a black leather strap that secures to the wrist via a pin buckle. There are 150 individually numbered pieces of the special edition available, and the price of the watch is 34,700 euros.
