W&W 2025: World Record – Bulgari Launches Thinnest Tourbillon Watch
Amongst other things, Bulgari specialises in ultra-thin watches. With the Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon, the brand has now set its tenth world record in this field in the last eleven years: the thinnest mechanical watch with a tourbillon.
Heralding its first appearance at Watches and Wonders 2025, Bulgari is presenting this extraordinary watch, which is only 1.85 mm thick. The Italian luxury brand has thus beaten the record set by Piaget in 2024: at 2 mm, their Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon was the thinnest watch with this complication to date.
With this new model, Bulgari is also building on the first record-breaking model from 2014. At the time, the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon calibre set a new standard with a height of 1.95 mm. Today, the technological progress is clear: the current model, including the case, is thinner than the tourbillon movement alone.
A technical masterpiece
The new watch is skeletonised – an additional challenge, especially for extremely flat movements that are already at the limits of stability. Thanks to the ingenious design of the movement plate, Bulgari is also able to dispense with a separate dial. Another special feature: the time display has been redesigned so that hours and minutes are shown together again. This improves readability compared to previous models, in which hours and minutes were displayed on separate dials.
The previous and the new model
The centrepiece is the BVF 900 hand-wound calibre, which operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 42-hour power reserve despite its low height.
The baseplate is made of extremely hard tungsten carbide and also serves as the case back. The bezel, case middle section and lugs are made of bead-blasted titanium. There is no crown – instead, the watch operates via two wheels on the sides of the case: while the wheel on the right is used to set the time, the wheel on the left winds the movement.
In terms of design, Bulgari has opted for a modern look with sophisticated details: most of the wheels feature a circular cut, while the control wheels and the barrel have an engraved, radial decoration. To increase the contrast, the hands have been polished and rhodium-plated, while the bridges have been bead-blasted and given a dark grey DLC coating. This makes it easier to read the time.
Design inspired by Roman architecture
The stepped octagonal case of the Octo Finissimo is inspired by the coffered ceiling of the Maxentius Basilica in Rome. Bulgari combines this historical reference with a puristic, avant-garde design language that clearly stands out from traditional watch aesthetics. The integrated bead-blasted titanium bracelet is also ultra-thin at just 1.5 millimetres, with a folding clasp.
Price and availability
The number 20 engraved on the wheel for setting the time hints at the fact that Bulgari will only produce 20 Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillons. The price is 750,000 EUR.

Breitling has been enjoying a new lease of life since mid-2017, under the new leadership of Georges Kern. His manufacture doesn’t simply offer a diverse array of models for the sake of wide-reaching popularity. Yet a broad appeal is exactly what the Swiss horology house is now enjoying. When Kern took over as CEO, he…
After the recently launched Premier, Georges Kern continues to hold on to the rich heritage of BREITLING strongly. So strong, that now a 60-year-old watch was re-editioned almost unchanged. You don’t get to see that very often in the watch industry, in which brands indeed regularly introduce new interpretations of older models, but rarely present…
The watch brand Panerai experienced an enormous upswing in the past 20 years. Many don’t know that the Florentine brand was already established in 1887 and produces wristwatches since 1936, although in the beginning only for the Italian navy. In particular combat divers relied on the tough watches that needed to withstand the water pressure…
As an author who has spent over twenty years writing about mechanical wristwatches, being tucked away for two hours in a shadowy wine cellar in Cologne’s old town with thirty potential watch clients is truly exciting. It’s not just the rare wines they savoured together – including a Bordeaux from 1988 – but the open…
Under the leadership of co-founders Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini, Louis Vuitton’s La Fabrique du Temps is steadily establishing itself as a serious contender in the realm of haute horlogerie – despite being little more than a decade old. Today, the manufacture not only produces its own movements, but also undertakes intricate and rare decorative…
Victor Lance Vescovo is a special person in many ways. While visiting the Greek island of Mykonos for the 75th anniversary of the Omega Seamaster, Swisswatches met this titan of a man; slender as a whip, with a white beard and long white hair held scraped back with a hair tie, he looks like a…

Vacheron Constantin makes no secret of the significance of its Patrimony collection for the maison. The name itself, ‘Patrimony’, speaks to the brand’s heritage, evoking a deep legacy of history, emotion, responsibility, and a commitment to carry that legacy forward. When the horology house from Geneva first decided to launch the collection twenty years ago,…
Florentine watch brand Panerai’s Submersible models first surfaced in the late 90s. For more than two decades, however, the timepiece overshadowing it was Panerai's original diving watch, the Luminor. Since 2019, the Submersible has increasingly distinguished itself as a line in its own right. Now, for the first time, the new Submersible Goldtech Orocarbo PAM01070 combines two Panerai-developed materials into one watch:…
Whether it's Sofia Richie, Natasha from Sex and the City, or influencer The Gstaad Guy's 'Constance' serving as your inspiration, 'quiet luxury' remains the hottest trend this summer – and I would make the case that this dashingly handsome collector's piece doubles up as the ultimate embodiment of the 'quiet luxury' movement. With its combination…
The 'Nordschleife' (Northern loop) has the reputation of being the most difficult racetrack in the world. This winding ribbon of tarmac makes its way through 33 left-hand and 40 right-hand bends, while varying in altitudes of 300 m over the Eifel National Park – more than any other race track. The Nordschleife is so notorious…
