Back in January at the LMVH Watch Week in Dubai, watchmaker Zenith, which was founded back in 1865, introduced several exciting novelties into its DEFY collection.
One special new piece of this collection is likely to have particularly excited fans of electro and techno music: the DEFY 21 Carl Cox Edition. It was created in tribute to none other than the British DJ and producer Carl Cox, who became one of the most famous personalities in the electro scene worldwide with his 80s underground raves, main stage gigs at numerous festivals, own stage at the Burning Man festival, and even his own music label.
To celebrate his musical talent, Zenith turned up the volume with its new watch, creating a 1/100 seconds chronograph with a carbon bezel as well as strap stitches that light up in the dark. Its open-worked dial is designed in the techno stars style, while a rotating disc showing the seconds at 9 o‘clock is crafted in the shape of a vinyl record, evoking a DJs beat.
The new edition is powered by the self-winding calibre El Primero 9004, and shows central minutes, seconds and hundredths of a second. The watch is also equipped with a 30-minute-counter at 3 o’clock, a 60-seconds-counter at 6 o’clock and a chronograph power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock. The power reserve of the DEFY 21 Carl Cox Edition is approximately 50 hours.
Carl Cox
himself hailed his partnership with Zenith as a possibility to ‘share my love
for music with people all over the world. Therefore, the cooperation with this
brand on a watch with high frequency felt natural.’
The DEFY 21 Carl Cox Edition is limited to a number of 200 pieces and costs 19,200 euros.
