W&W 2020: Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Calendar
Jaeger-LeCoultre’s recently relaunched ‘Master Control’collection features redesigned 40mm watches with open casebacks, sunray brushed silver-white dials and a blue central seconds hand. The watches are now driven by updated calibres integrating various energy-saving enhancements.
One of the new iterations is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Calendar, which features a complete calendar as well as a moon phase display. It is housed in a 40 mm case made of stainless-steel (Ref. Q4148420). The model is worn on a nappa leather strap.
As seen in the brand’s triple-calendar plus moonphase models back in the 1940s and 50s, the model features a clearly laid out dial and Dauphine hands made of the same material that is used for the case. The calendar display of days and months is situated in the upper part of the dial while the dates are marked around the periphery and indicated by a red-tipped hand. Next, the moon phase is situated within the small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. Sapphire crystal protects the silver dial on the front and reveals the decorated calibre on the back.
The new generation, in-house Calibre 866 has had new complications introduced, and now offers a 70-hour power reserve. Jaeger-LeCoultre has added a new jumping function to the date display; every month, the date hand performs a 90-degree leap from the 15th to the 16th, in order to avoid obscuring the moon-phase and small seconds. To that end, the area between 5 and 7 o’clock of the date ring does not bear date indication but carries the lettering: “Quantieme à Date Sautante”.
The Jaeger-LeCoultreMaster Control Calendar is water-resistant to 50m. The stainless-steel (Ref. Q4148420 ) version is priced at 11,400 euros.
