Hublot Celebrates Winter With Two New Icy Big Bang Unico Models
Sapphire, titanium and ceramic – whether winter shows itself in all its splendour or arrives as a dreary rainy season, the two new Hublot models, Big Bang Unico Winter Sapphire and Big Bang Unico Winter Titanium Ceramic, conjure up a winter wonderland on your wrist with their cool glacier blue and white materials.
It has been well known since the limited edition Big Bang Blue was launched in 2017 that the LVMH brand Hublot loves the warm season and likes to celebrate it with summer editions. The model established the tradition of an annual summer watch for the brand’s boutiques in Mediterranean hotspots. Incidentally, this year the Big Bang celebrates its 20th birthday, and of course there was also a summer edition this year.
Now Hublot has also discovered winter as a source of inspiration and presents the Big Bang Unico Winter Sapphireand the Big Bang Unico Winter Titanium Ceramic, limited to 30 and 200 pieces respectively.
‘At Hublot, we don’t just mark the seasons, we celebrate them. Just as summer has become a living tradition for us, winter now also has a firm place in our DNA,’ explains Hublot CEO Julien Tornare.
Case and strap
The two new models live up to their names: one model, water-resistant to five bar, is completely transparent with a case and bezel made of polished, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The second winter model is made of lightweight, glass-bead-blasted titanium and combines this with cool, high-tech ceramic in white for the bezel. Of course, both versions feature the six H-shaped screws that secure the bezel.
Both cases have a diameter of 42 millimetres and connect to the strap using a one-click system, which allows them to be changed quickly and without tools. Appropriately, two white calfskin straps are included in the scope of delivery, with white and blue rubber lining respectively.
Hublot manufacture movement with five patents
Inside the new winter editions, the in-house Unico automatic calibre HUB1280 with flyback chronograph, column wheel on the dial side, silicon escapement, snowflake-shaped tungsten rotor and an impressive 72-hour power reserve is at work.
It combines five patents: oscillating horizontal double clutch, anti-vibration system, ratchet wheel with friction-free ratchet cone, fine adjustment mechanism for the balance wheel, and friction system with constant pressure for the minute counter. Reliable functionality is ensured by the precise interaction of a total of 354 components.
This can be seen on the Big Bang Unico Winter Sapphire as well as on the Big Bang Unico Winter Titanium Ceramic on the rhodium-plated and skeletonised dial with accents in glacier blue.
