Oris Aquis Date Calibre 400 41.5 mm in blue, anthracite and green
Oris is presenting a smaller version of the Oris Aquis Date Calibre 400 introduced in 2020. The three new divers are housed in a smaller 41.5 mm case but nonetheless feature the Calibre 400. The latter boasts an impressive power reserve of 5 days and high durability. The watches come in blue, anthracite or green and are available with a steel bracelet as well as a rubber strap.
The Oris Aquis and the Calibre 400
Last year, the Hölstein-based manufacture proudly presented its new in-house calibre – the Calibre 400. It offers a strong power reserve of 5 days combined with high precision and durability. The popular Oris Aquis was the first watch to be updated and equipped with the Calibre 400. Now Oris presents a smaller version of this watch, that features the same mechanics. In addition to the typical blue of the collection, this watch also comes with a dial in anthracite or green.
Case and Materials
The three versions of the Oris Aquis Date 41.5 mm come with a stainless steel case. It measures 41.5 mm in diameter, which is 2 mm less than that of the flagship Aquis Date Calibre 400. The design, however, remains unchanged. The multi-piece steel case has angular lugs with visible screws. On the back, the sapphire crystal case back reveals the mechanics inside. Elsewhere, the crown guard prevents the screw-down steel crown from being damaged. Meanwhile, the unidirectional rotating bezel with ceramic insert presents itself in blue, anthracite or green – depending on the colour of the dial.
Dial in blue, anthracite and green
Oris presents the new Aquis Date 41.5 mm with three different dial colours. The classic blue that adorns the 43.5 mm variant is now joined by anthracite and green. It is worth mentioning that these colours are not available on the larger model. Fans of the trendy green dial colour will therefore have to settle for the smaller case diameter. Common to all variants are the indices and hands, which are generously filled with Super-LumiNova.
Interestingly, Oris reduces the text on the dial. The larger model still has the line “Pressure Resistant”. This has been omitted here in favour of a tidy front. However, the water resistance of 30 bar remains unchanged. The date window at 6 o’clock also still has a black number disc and can be adjusted via the quick set functionality.
The Calibre 400 inside the Oris Aquis Date 41.5 mm
The company equips the Oris Aquis Date 41.5 mm with the Calibre 400, which was introduced in 2020. This manufacture movement has an impressive power reserve of 5 days and is particularly robust. Accordingly, the movement contains over 30 anti-magnetic components, including an escapement wheel and an anchor made of silicon to protect it against magnetism. The mechanism does not disappoint in terms of precision either: with a rate deviation of -3/+5 seconds per day, it (theoretically) exceeds the COSC chronometer specifications.
Oris has also replaced the ball bearing of the automatic winding mechanism with a slide bearing in which a steel axle is guided through a ring. This eliminated a typical weak point of mechanical movements. How convinced the manufacture is of the longevity of its movement is shown by the recommended maintenance interval of 10 years. In addition, the company grants a 10-year guarantee as soon as the watch has been registered with MyOris.
Strap exchange system
This model is also equipped with Oris’ Quick Strap Change System. This allows the strap to be changed quickly and without tools. All you have to do is open the tab at the end of the strap and pass it around the bar of the lugs. The Oris Aquis Date 41.5 mm comes on either a steel or rubber strap. Both have a folding clasp and a diving extension.
Price and availability of the Oris Aquis Date Calibre 400 41.5 mm
The Oris Aquis Date Calibre 400 41.5 mm in blue, anthracite or green will be available from June 2021. The price is the same as with the larger Oris Aquis Calibre 400 in the 43.5 mm case. The watches cost 2,900 euros with the rubber strap and 3,000 euros with the steel bracelet.
