Ladies, your attention please: Vacheron Constantin has introduced two new additions to its Overseas collection, both housed in a 34.5 mm case. Presented in either 18K 5N rose gold (Ref. 4600V/200R-H128) or stainless steel (Ref. 4600V/200A-H127), the pair combine compact proportions with bold multi-finished lacquered dials in golden- or red-lacquered hues, offering a contemporary interpretation of the Maison’s steadfastly popular sports watch. Both watches offer three interchangeable straps, reinforcing the versatility that has become a defining characteristic of the Overseas collection.

Case and dial execution

According to Vacheron Constantin’s Style & Heritage Director Christian Selmoni, the introduction of more compact proportions is less about revisiting earlier designs than broadening the ways in which the Overseas can be worn today. Rather than nostalgia, he describes the evolution as ‘a natural bridge between heritage and modernity’, preserving the collection’s authenticity and everyday wearability while remaining faithful to its sporting spirit.

Designed to suit wrists erring on the smaller side, both new references measure 34.5 mm in diameter and 9.33 mm in height, striking a balance between sporty elegance and refined proportions. As these particular watches are non-diamond-set executions, the iconic hexagonal bezel inspired by the emblematic Maltese Cross takes centre stage. Available in 18-carat 5N rose gold or stainless steel, both models feature a screw-down crown, a transparent sapphire crystal caseback showcasing the decorated gold rotor, and have been tested for water resistance to 5 bar (approximately 50 m). This is an interesting change from previous 34.5 mm Overseas models, which had significantly higher water resistance to 15 bar (approx. 150 m).

Two contrasting approaches to colour

Both watches feature multi-finished lacquered dials designed to create a dynamic play of light. The 18-carat 5N rose gold reference is fitted with a golden-lacquered dial in matching rose-gold hues, featuring a sunburst satin-finished base framed by a velvet-finished outer minute track. The monochromatic look is completed by applied 18-carat pink gold hour markers and hands, all coated with blue Super-LumiNova for a sporty finish.

Meanwhile, the stainless-steel model adopts a more expressive approach with a deep red lacquered dial, also featuring a satin sunburst centre and velvet-finished external minutes track. Applied 18K white gold hour markers and hands, again treated with blue Super-LumiNova, provide contrast against the rich burgundy backdrop. The combination of lacquer, satin brushing and velvet finishing gives both dials exceptional depth while preserving the clean, architectural aesthetic of the Overseas collection.

Of course, these are not the first 34.5 mm models to appear in the Overseas collection: Vacheron Constantin already has three other alternatives in its portfolio. Those watches, which likewise appear in rose-gold or steel, appear in combination with the manufacture’s perennially popular green or blue dials. The new deep red edition injects a welcome pop of colour into the collection, while the pink-gold tone of its sibling offers a subtler, warmer hue. We have seen the deep red tone before, making an appearance on the 41.5 mm white-gold Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin, as well as the 42.5 mm titanium Overseas Tourbillon – but never on a smaller three-hand model. Given that only two years ago Vogue crowned burgundy ‘the new neutral’, with the hue also picking up pace in the watch industry over the last few years, it seems a smart move to introduce it into a best-selling watch most likely destined for the wrist of a female collector.

Movement: Calibre 1088/1

A quick reminder that any Overseas watch smaller than 34.5 mm, aka the 33 mm editions, are powered by quartz. By contrast, powering both new 34.5 mm references is the calibre 1088/1, a manufacture calibre with a self-winding movement, visible through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback. The in-house calibre, which is favoured for its reliability and high precision, was designed with the compact Overseas watches in mind, appearing on the likes of the captivating iced-out diamond Overseas watches introduced last year. A mere 3.83 mm in height and comprising 144 components alongside 24 jewels, the calibre operates at 4Hz and delivers approximately 40 hours of power reserve.

The calibre displays hours, minutes, central seconds and date, bringing together compact dimensions with the refined finishing expected of one of Geneva’s oldest watch manufactures, including the 22-carat gold rotor adorned with a compass rose.

Bracelet and straps

Vacheron Constantin continues the Overseas tradition of adaptability with its self-interchangeable bracelet and strap system, allowing each watch to transform without the need for tools. Described by the watch manufacture as ‘one piece, three styles’, each watch is supplied with three interchangeable wearing options.

The rose-gold model comes with an 18K 5N pink gold bracelet, accompanied by a white textured rubber strap and a white alligator leather strap. Meanwhile, the stainless-steel version is likewise paired with the iconic Overseas  bracelet, this time in steel, alongside a deep red textured rubber strap and a deep red shiny alligator leather strap finished with tone-on-tone stitching. Interestingly, the 34.5 mm predecessors with green or blue dials opted for grained calf leather as opposed to alligator leather – the exact reasons for the switch back to durable alligator leather are open to interpretation.

While the rose-gold or steel bracelet feel like the most natural continuation to both versions, the rubber strap option underlines the watch’s sporty nature, and the rubber/alligator burgundy straps nicely emphasise the deep hues of the Ref. 4600V/200A-H127’s dial. In any case, all three options incorporate the manufacture’s self-interchangeable system and are secured by a matching 18-carat 5N pink gold or stainless steel self-interchangeable folding clasp. The tool-free mechanism allows the watch to transition effortlessly from bracelet to leather or rubber, making it equally suited to everyday wear, travel or more formal occasions.

Versatility at the heart of the collection

It could well be argued that the significance of these new Overseas models extends beyond a smaller case size. They reflect a broader shift in women’s watchmaking, where colour, craftsmanship and mechanical credibility are increasingly taking precedence over diamonds as the defining design language. Rather than relying on gem-setting to distinguish a ladies’ model, Vacheron Constantin has introduced warmth through a monochromatic rose-gold dial and confidence through a richly lacquered deep-red alternative. The result feels contemporary without sacrificing the refinement always expected of Vacheron Constantin.

The 34.5 mm case also strikes a particularly appealing balance, retaining the presence and architectural lines that make an Overseas instantly recognisable while sitting elegantly on smaller wrists, broadening the collection’s appeal without feeling like a scaled-down compromise. After all, we are now in the era of smaller watches, and this applies to female collectors as much as males: many of us are moving away from the ‘boyfriend watch’ trend popular a few years ago in favour of smaller pieces that can be styled elegantly with jewellery.

Finally, by favouring carefully thought-through colours on the dials over diamond-set cases, Vacheron Constantin has created two Overseas models that feel thoroughly modern while also representing one of the more accessible entry points into the collection. For collectors looking for an everyday luxury sports watch with genuine manufacture credentials, adaptable styling and enduring elegance, these latest 34.5 mm references make a compelling case. The steel Overseas is priced at €26,100 and the rose gold version at €58,500.
