TUDOR Black Bay Ceramic featuring stealthy all-black looks and METAS certificate
TUDOR is presenting a new model from the Black Bay family, which comes in a completely black case. It is also made of scratch-resistant ceramic, something that no Black Bay has ever offered before. Inside is an in-house movement that features all black finishing and the METAS certificate. The new Black Bay Ceramic combines a high-tech material with modern mechanics, but remains true to the essential design features of the TUDOR collection and brand.
The all-black case of the Black Bay Ceramic
The TUDOR Black Bay Ceramic comes in a black monobloc case made of ceramic. The material is known for its hardness, which means that the wearer will be spared most scratches on the case. Except for the polished flanks, the manufacture gives the case a sandblasted surface. In addition, it is fitted with a screw-down stainless steel crown that is decorated with the TUDOR rose. Last but not least, the case has a rotating diver’s bezel with a ceramic insert. The latter has a sunray satin finish and engraved graduations. A domed sapphire crystal also protects the front. On the back, meanwhile, the transparent case back allows a view of the mechanics.
Black dial with off-white indices
The straightforward dial has applied indices with off-white luminous material. There is also a minute track on the periphery and the “Black Bay” lettering with a reference to the watch’s distinction as a Master Chronometer. Three hands indicate the time here and they also have Super-LumiNova. The hour hand, of course, features the snowflake design typical of TUDOR. Unlike the other models in the collection, however, there is no indication of the water resistance on the front, which is a respectable 200 metres.
Even the calibre inside the Black Bay Ceramic is black
The MT5602-1U calibre powers TUDOR’s Black Bay Ceramic. This manufacture movement is self-winding and has a power reserve of 70 hours. A balance wheel with variable inertia and a silicon hairspring drives the three hands. However, the movement also bears the METAS certificate. This certificate is awarded by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology, which tests the watch for precision, water resistance, anti-magnetism and more. The Black Bay Ceramic is therefore guaranteed to achieve the prescribed accuracy of -0 to +5 seconds per day. The completely black movement with its tungsten rotor is also visible through the case back.
Price & availability of the TUDOR Black Bay Ceramic
The watch comes on a hybrid strap made of leather and rubber that secures with a folding clasp made of PVD-coated stainless steel. The manufacturer also includes a black textile strap with a cream-coloured stripe. The price of the TUDOR Black Bay Ceramic is 4,410 euros.

What establishes a bicompax chronograph from a "normal" one? Principally, a bicompax chronograph (as the name suggests) has not three, but rather only two subdial counters. Along with this year's trend for green dial watches, the horology world is also seeing a resurgence of bicompax chronographs, which have been on the scene since the 20th…
Richard Mille is known for technical finesse beyond the norm. Now, the brand is launching the RM 30-01 featuring a declutchable rotor in two versions. Its movement automatically stops the winding as soon as the maximum power reserve is reached. This prevents the barrel from overwinding, which in turn improves accuracy. The RM 30-01 follows…
The DiaStar is rather a historic model for watch manufacture Rado, with the timepiece appearing only five years after the brand's founding back in 1957. The first 1962 DiaStar quickly gained a following for its distinctive shape and extremely resistant tungsten-carbide case – a highly unusual material for a watch both then and now. Following…
