The Porsche Design Chronograph 718 GT4 RS is The Perfect Match For The New Cayman GT4 RS
For the Porsche Cayman dedicated to the racetrack, Porsche Design is presenting the Chronograph 718 GT4 RS, the matching timepiece. However, it is also reserved for buyers of the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS. The watch is based on the Porsche Design Chronotimer Series 1, but has some specific details. One highlight is the winding rotor of the automatic movement, which matches the rim design of the sports car. With the help of the online configurator, the chronograph can be customised to your own taste.
Porsche 718 GT4 RS: The Cayman For The Racetrack
This 718 Cayman, optimised for the racetrack, offers maximum performance and driving pleasure through high-tech far and wide. The air intakes at the front and the rear wing with swan-neck connection, for example, testify to the two-seater’s aspirations. The car comes with the Porsche PDK transmission, which enables quick gear changes.
The propulsion is provided by a 4.0-litre 6-cylinder boxer engine that delivers a powerful 500 hp to the road. The Porsche goes from zero to one hundred km/h in 3.4 seconds, and the forward propulsion only ends at 315 km/h. In addition, a high-revving concept up to over 9,000 revolutions ensures direct responsiveness. However, emotions are also catered for: the relocation of the engine to the interior not only reveals the mechanics under the rear window, but also provides rich sound for driver and copilot.

The matching watch picks up on the design of the GT4. The case is made of lightweight titanium, which is also used in the engine of the car. Many small details also bear witness to the connection to the Cayman. The “GT4 RS” lettering is not only found on the case and the strap. A rotating disc on the dial also draws attention to the corresponding sports car.
The Case Consists of Lightweight Titanium
The case of the watch comes in lightweight but resistant titanium. It is available in it’s natural colour or blackened. The diameter is 42 mm. On the side are the pushers and the easy-grip crown with the Porsche Design logo. Last but not least, the watch has a bezel with a tachymeter or alternatively a minute scale. On the back, the exhibition case back allows a view of the mechanics. The water resistance is 5 bar or 50 metres.
Dial in Matt Black or Carbon
The dial captivates with its low-reflection matt black coating. It is reminiscent of the car’s rev counter and has dash indices with minute markers and five-minute increments. This is complemented by the black main hands with luminous material. The hands of the chronograph function, however, are in the signal colour yellow. At 12 o’clock there is a 30-minute counter, while at 6 o’clock the hours are recorded. In addition, there is a rotating seconds disc at 9 o’clock. It bears the “GT4 RS” lettering and indicates that the watch is running. However, this does not function as a small seconds. Finally, Porsche Design places a date window at 4 o’clock.
Alternatively, a dial in carbon look is also available. However, further individualisations can also be made. Chronograph hands are available in black or white. The height ring on the periphery can also be customised in colour.
The Engine Inside The Porsche Design Chronograph 718 Cayman GT4 RS
The WERK 01.200 calibre drives the hands here. It is based on the Valjoux 7750 and offers automatic winding and a maximum power autonomy of 48 hours. The winding rotor resembles the design of the car’s rims and can be customised in colour. Last but not least, the calibre offers a chronograph with flyback function. The latter makes it possible to restart a time measurement without having to stop it first. The movement also bears the chronometer certificate of the COSC, which guarantees, among other things, a maximum rate deviation of -4 to +6 seconds per day.
Price & Availability of the Porsche Design Chronograph 718 Cayman GT4 RS
The watch comes on a strap made of black car leather and black Race-Tex with “GT4 RS” embossing. The decorative stitching comes in either arctic grey or deep sea blue. However, the watch can be further customised in the configurator. The Porsche Design Chronograph 718 Cayman GT4 RS will be available at Porsche Centres from 17.11.2021. The base price is 8,050 euros.
