With the Patravi ScubaTec Maldives, Carl F. Bucherer celebrates its long-standing partnership with the Manta Trust – a non-profit organisation that works to protect the endangered manta ray. With its stainless steel case and water resistance of 500 metres, the ScubaTec Maldives is a real diver’s watch. In addition, the certified chronometer has a rotating bezel with an extra-large scale. The watch comes on a rubber strap made from recycled plastic. Last but not least, the family-run manufacture donates a portion of the sales proceeds to the Manta Trust to support the construction of a floating research station.
The stainless steel case
The Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec Maldives is housed in a 44.6 mm stainless steel case. It has geometric lugs with polished edges that complement the brushed surfaces. Moreover, the fluted crown bears a blue ring and is protected by polished flanks. Also, the case has a unidirectional stainless steel bezel with blue and white ceramic inlays. The large 60-minute scale with luminous markings improves readability under water. In addition, the Lucerne-based company installs an automatic helium valve at 8 o’clock. The solid case back bears an image of two manta rays. Last but not least, with a water resistance of 500 metres, the watch is indeed suitable for diving.
The blue dial is reminiscent of the world’s oceans
The blue dial has a textured wave pattern, reminiscent of the world’s oceans. It has wedge-shaped indices that are coated with luminous material, as are the large hour and minute hands and the central seconds hand. Further, there is a date window with a white frame at 3 o’clock. Finally, at 6 o’clock, the house places the model name and a reference to the chronometer distinction and the water resistance.
The CFB 1950.1 calibre inside the Patravi ScubaTec Maldives
The CFB 1950.1 calibre inside the watch is based on the ETA 2824-2. It has automatic winding and a power reserve of 38 hours. The frequency of the balance wheel is 4 Hz. In addition to hours, minutes and seconds, the movement also displays the date of the current day. Last but not least, the movement is certified by the COSC as a chronometer, which guarantees, among other things, a precision of -4/+6 seconds per day.
The Patravi ScubaTec Maldives appears on a blue strap made of natural rubber. The textile insert on the front is made entirely from recycled PET bottles. The strap has a folding clasp with fine adjustment so that the watch can also be worn over a diving suit. Alternatively, a stainless steel bracelet is available, which is also secured by a folding clasp and can also be adjusted to the desired length.
The Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec Maldives costs 5,200 euros.
