Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – 50 Years 911 Turbo Edition: A Tribute to an Automotive Icon
Porsche Design celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 Turbo with a special edition timepiece, the Chronograph 1 – 50 Years 911 Turbo Edition. Limited to 500 pieces, this watch is a homage to the legendary sports car unveiled at the 1974 Paris Motor Show. The Chronograph 1 – 50 Years 911 Turbo Edition combines elements from the original Chronograph 1 with design cues from the first Porsche 911 Turbo, making it a must-have for both Turbo enthusiasts and watch aficionados.
Case
The case of the Chronograph 1 – 50 Jahre 911 Turbo Edition is crafted from ultra-light and durable titanium, featuring a scratch-resistant black titanium carbide coating. This material choice reflects the lightweight optimizations seen in the Porsche 911 Turbo over the decades. The open case back, made from sevenfold anti-reflective sapphire glass, showcases the watch’s movement and includes the iconic Turbo script, framed by the years 1974 and 2024. The limited edition number (XXX/500) is also engraved here, emphasizing the exclusivity of this timepiece. The case dimensions are 40.8 mm in diameter and 15.5 mm in height, providing a substantial yet comfortable presence on the wrist.
Dial
The dial of the Chronograph 1 – 50 Jahre 911 Turbo Edition is a nod to the instrument panel of the first Porsche 911 Turbo, featuring three sub-dials. The matte black dial, combined with white hands and indices, ensures optimal readability. The red seconds hand adds a striking contrast, while the ‘Flyback’ inscription above the 6 o’clock position is styled in the typeface of the historic dashboard. The dial also includes the vintage Porsche Design logo from the 1970s, reinforcing the watch’s heritage. The sevenfold anti-reflective sapphire glass further enhances the dial’s visibility under various lighting conditions.
Movement
Inside the Chronograph 1 – 50 Jahre 911 Turbo Edition beats the Porsche Design Caliber WERK 01.240. This movement features a flyback function, allowing the wearer to start, stop, and reset the chronograph with a single operation. It is COSC-certified, a testament to its precision and reliability. The movement is powered by an automatic rotor designed to resemble the iconic Fuchsfelge wheel, a hallmark of the original 911 Turbo. The rotor’s matte black finish with chrome edges and the embossed Porsche crest highlight the connection to the legendary sports car. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and has a power reserve of 48 hours.
Strap
The watch comes with a beige textile leather strap equipped with a quick-change system and a black Velcro closure for added comfort and ease of use. The strap’s color pays homage to the Beige Gray Metallic paint and full leather interior of the first 911 Turbo. Additionally, an extra titanium bracelet with a black titanium carbide coating is included, offering versatility for different occasions.
