TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph: Official Sponsor Launches New Collection
After having announced its comeback of official sponsor of Formula 1 recently, TAG Heuer is now expanding its Formula 1 collection with five new chronographs. These watches pay homage to the brand’s motorsport heritage and feature design elements inspired by Formula 1. Among them is a special edition created in collaboration with Oracle Red Bull Racing. Let’s take a closer look at these new timepieces.
Case
The cases of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 models measure 44 mm in diameter. They are made of either sandblasted grade-2 titanium or black DLC-coated titanium, depending on the model. The design is inspired by the aerodynamic lines of Formula 1 cars, with a ring between the bezel and case that adds a pop of colour. The fixed bezels are made of aluminium and feature a tachymetric scale. Ergonomics have been improved with a refined case profile and an optimized lug-to-lug distance of 47.3 mm. The water resistance of 200 meters makes these watches suitable for all sorts of activities. Flat sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating ensure clear visibility. The screw-down crown and pushers are also made of titanium. On the special edition with Oracle Red Bull Racing, the logos of both brands are engraved on the caseback.
Dial
The dials of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph models vary in colour but share a common design language. They feature a black opaline base with a track running around the dial, lacquered in colours that reflect the ‘Grand Prix by night’ theme which has been the inspiration for these watches. Each model has its own colour scheme: red, blue, or lime green. The counters are positioned at 12, 6, and 9 o’clock. The applied indices and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova, ensuring readability in low light conditions. There is also a date window at 3 o’clock. The central seconds hand and the track running around the dial are lacquered in the respective accent colour of the model. The logo and inscriptions are printed in white, maintaining a clean and legible appearance.
Movement
Inside the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph models beats the Calibre 16. This automatic chronograph movement is based on the SW500 and features a column wheel for precise operation of the chronograph functions. It has a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offers a power reserve of approximately 42 hours.
Strap
The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph watches come with different straps that complement their design. The models with red, blue, and lime green accents feature black rubber straps with coloured rims. These straps are not only comfortable but also durable, making them ideal for sporty use. The model with the black DLC-coated case and red accents has a red rubber strap. All straps are equipped with stainless steel pin buckles engraved with the TAG Heuer logo. The special edition with Oracle Red Bull Racing has a blue rubber strap with red rims, mirroring the colours of the racing team. This strap also has a stainless steel pin buckle with the TAG Heuer engraving.
Price and Availability
The new TAG Heuer Formula 1 models will be available from March 2025, except for the model with the Oracle Red Bull Racing branding, which will be released in April 2025. Prices start at 4,600 CHF for the standard models and 5,300 CHF for the special edition. These watches can be purchased through authorised TAG Heuer retailers worldwide.
