W&W 2025: Chanel Introduces The Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Bleu Edition
At Watches & Wonders 2025, Chanel is once again merging the world of high fashion with the precision of fine watchmaking in the shape of the Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Bleu Edition. The Bleu Edition features a distinctive blue hue, a ceramic colour that took five years to perfect and that appears to be almost black. Like its predecessor, the Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Edition Intense Black, the timepiece draws inspiration from the world of motor sports and features the Calibre 1, Chanel’s first in-house movement. Offering complications like the instant jumping hour and retrograde minute and limited to just 100 pieces, the Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Bleu Edition is a collector’s item that embodies luxury, precision, and exclusivity.
Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Bleu Edition case
The case of the Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Bleu Edition is crafted from a combination of matte blue highly resistant ceramic and steel. This blend not only highlights the watch’s sporty aesthetic but also ensures its durability and resistance to scratches. Measuring 42 mm in diameter, the case is robust yet elegant, perfectly suited to both formal and casual settings. The bezel, also in blue ceramic, frames the dial with a subtle yet striking presence. The caseback is made of steel and sapphire crystal, engraved with “LIMITED TO 100,” emphasizing the watch’s exclusivity.
Dial
The dial of the Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Bleu Edition is echoing the speedometer displays of sports cars. The black guilloché dial is reminiscent of a perlage pattern, adding texture and depth. The dial is structured around a 240-degree arc in Chanel blue. It showcases the retrograde minutes on the upper half, while the jumping hour is prominently displayed at 6 o’clock. The small seconds function is positioned centrally, adding to the dial’s symmetry and functionality. The white Superleggera lettering matches the brand’s logo above, providing a contrast against the black dial and harmonising with the arrow at the dial’s lower edge. Thus, this dial not only serves as a canvas for displaying time but also embodies the spirit of precision and speed.
Movement
At the heart of the Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Bleu Edition lies the Caliber 1, a remarkable in-house movement. It was designed in collaboration with renowned watchmaker Romain Gauthier. This manual-winding mechanical movement with two barrels is a testament to Chanel’s dedication to watchmaking excellence, incorporating 170 components to deliver sophisticated complications. Notably, the movement integrates a jumping hour and a 240° retrograde minute. The movement operates at a frequency of 4Hz, ensuring precise timekeeping. The movement is equipped with a 72-hour power reserve, providing ample autonomy between windings. Additionally, the movement’s aesthetic is not to be overlooked, featuring a black mainplate and circular bridges that complement the watch’s overall design. The inclusion of the Chanel lion motif pays homage to the brand’s heritage, signifying the exclusivity of Chanel’s manufacture movements.
Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Bleu Edition strap
The strap of the Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Bleu Edition is crafted from blue nylon. It is accented with a blue calfskin trim and a black calfskin lining, providing a luxurious feel against the wrist. A steel triple-folding buckle secures the trap.
Price & Availability
The Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Bleu Edition is a limited edition timepiece. The 100 pieces are only available through select Chanel boutiques and authorised retailers worldwide. This exclusivity is reflected in its pricing, which is available upon request. As a collector’s item, it is expected to be in high demand among watch enthusiasts and Chanel aficionados alike.
