Breguet 5557 Marine Hora Mundi: The World at a Glance
With the 5557 Marine Hora Mundi, Breguet is presenting a new take on the maritime sports watch, which now offers a world time complication on an ornate dial. Here, a stylised world map adorns the front, underlining the spirit of discovery that the timepiece conveys. The complication can display the 24 time zones relative to local time. The watch case is made of either white or rose gold and is secured to the wrist with an integrated gold, leather or rubber strap.
The Sporty Gold Case
The watch has a 43.9 mm case in 18 carat white or rose gold. The height is 13.8 mm. The middle section features the typical Breguet cannelures and ends in integrated, solid lugs. At three o’clock is the crown, flanked by protective shoulders. In contrast, the pusher at 8 o’clock controls the time zone function. On the back, the sapphire crystal case back allows you to see inside the wristwatch, which is water-resistant to 100 metres.
The Ornate Dial of The Breguet 5557 Marine Hora Mundi
The dial consists of different levels that together form the image of the world map. First of all, the watchmakers provide the deep blue gold background with guilloché waves that taper off at the continents. The latter lie on another disc of sapphire crystal and are bordered by metallised turquoise edges. Above them, metallised meridians reinforce the three-dimensional impression. Finally, an altitude ring carries the elements for displaying the time, such as the dotted minute track and the Roman indices. To make them readable even in the dark, they are coated with luminous material, as are both the hour and minute hand.
The Breguet 5557 Marine Hora Mundi offers a world time mechanism that makes it easy to keep track of the 24 time zones. First, the wearer sets the local time with the corresponding date. Then the desired time zone can be selected at the touch of a button. The anchor at 6 o’clock points to the appropriate time zone city in the window below. In addition, the date is shown by the retrograde hand with the U-shaped tip at 12 o’clock. Last but not least, the maritime timepiece offers a day/night indicator. Both a moon and a sun rotate in the window at 4 o’clock and both are hammered by hand to give a realistic impression.
The Movement
Inside the Breguet 5557 Marine Hora Mundi is the Caliber 77F1. With its additional modules, it enables the display of the second time zone, the programmable and reprogrammable mechanical memory wheel and the day/night display. Then, the silicon hairspring ensures optimal rate stability. The movement also offers automatic winding with a maximum power autonomy of 55 hours. Of course, the watchmakers decorate the movement with Côtes de Genève, guilloché and spiral decorations.
Price & Availability of the Breguet 5557 Marine Hora Mundi
The Breguet 5557 Marine Hora Mundi is available either on a gold bracelet or on a rubber or leather strap. However, all have a folding clasp. The two new timepieces are available now. The price is 73,700 euros on a strap and 96,500 on a bracelet.
