Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Huracán Monobalancier: Greetings From Goodwood
Roger Dubuis is the official timekeeper of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which celebrates the world of motorsport. To mark this year’s event, Roger Dubuis is presenting the Excalibur Spider Huracán Monobalancier. Combining the DNA of the manufacture with its partner Lamborghini, the watch’s design is based on the Lamborghini GT3 Evo2. The colour scheme of the latter can be found in numerous details across the watch. As a limited edition of 88 pieces, however, the Excalibur Spider Huracán Monobalancier will be in scarce supply.
The Case is of Mineral Composite Fibre
The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Huracán Monobalancier is housed in a 45 mm case made of mineral composite fibre (MFC). The exclusive material is especially light yet sturdy and is also found here on the bezel and crown. In addition to the white of the case, accents in red, yellow and green are reminiscent of the colour scheme of the Lamborghini GT3 Evo2.
On the fixed bezel with the notches typical of the brand, for example, the numbers appear in red. In contrast, a green stripe sits in the case flank. The crown, meanwhile, is reminiscent of the wheel nuts on Lamborghini rims and has a yellow ring. On the back, the transparent case back allows a view of the mechanics of the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Huracán Monobalancier.
Dial
The front is characterised by its open architecture. The background is formed by coloured structures and the honeycomb pattern that is often found with Lamborghini cars. Spacious hands complement this with a yellow, kite-shaped tip. The latter indicate the time on the minute track on the outer ring. To improve readability, the tips of the hour and minute hands bear luminous material. Another highlight is the clearly visible balance wheel at 12 o’clock, which the watchmakers present like the engine of a sports car. Last but not least, the wearer can glimpse the two barrels at 5 and 7 o’clock, with the date window in between.
The Engine of The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Huracán Monobalancier
Roger Dubuis uses the RD630 calibre. Herein, the connection to motorsport continues, as the watchmakers designed the movement like the engine of a super sports car. It consists of 233 parts and integrates 29 rubies. A skeletonised rotor in the design of a Lamborghini rim provides automatic winding. Two barrels store energy up to a power autonomy of 60 hours. Elsewhere, the balance wheel, which sits at an incline of 12 degrees, provides the necessary drive. It operates at a frequency of 4 hertz and should achieve greater accuracy in some positions due to its orientation.
Price & Availability of the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Huracán Monobalancier
The watch comes on a white rubber strap with perforated green calfskin that echoes the colours of the Lamborghini. Alternatively, the wearer can exchange it without tools using the Quick Release System. The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Huracán Monobalancier is a limited edition of 88 pieces.
This one almost slipped through our fingers. In the shadow of many huge product launches, it's easy to overlook a few new models from quieter – but by no means less important –manufacturers. Certina, a brand belonging to the Swatch Group, launched the DS-2 Powermatic 80 back in March – and it turned out extremely well! I…

I must confess, I am biased: mechanical watch aficionados, in my view, generally have a good relationship with the passage of time. This often goes hand in hand with a certain worldliness and a desire to fill one’s time with a wealth of experiences – preferably while travelling. Those who confirm my preconception will find…

On the SIHH 2019 the Geneva luxury watch brand Vacheron Constantin launched three models, which are part of the newly interpreted 'Patrimony collection'.
