Founded in 1891 by brothers Gustav and Albert Stolz in Le Locle, Angelus quickly gained a reputation as an innovative Swiss watch manufacturer. Angelus celebrated milestones with the launch of the world's first serial-produced chronograph with calendar function, the Chronodate (1942), and the development of one of the first wristwatches with quarter-hour repetition, the Tinkler (1957). However, the quartz crisis in the 1970s and 1980s hit the manufacturer hard, leading to its disappearance from the market for several decades. It was only with the acquisition of the brand name by La Joux-Perret in 2011 that the brand was revived and has since resumed production of avant-garde models such as the U10 Tourbillon Lumière, the Chronodate, the Chronographe Télémètre and manufacture movements under the Angelus name in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Angelus thus remains true to its tradition of innovation, combining historical expertise with contemporary design.
