Greubel Forsey Hand Made 2: A Watch Truly Crafted by Hand
Greubel Forsey presents the Hand Made 2, a watch that embodies the brand’s commitment to traditional watchmaking. With this timepiece, the independent manufacturer pushes the boundaries of craftsmanship and precision. The Hand Made 2 is the second model in the Hand Made collection, following the Hand Made 1, which debuted in 2019. While the first watch featured a tourbillon, the new model opts for a design with a four-hand layout. Nevertheless, it remains a unique piece that showcases the brand’s commitment to the craft. Let’s take a closer look at the features and details of the Greubel Forsey Hand Made 2.
Case
The case of the Hand Made 2 is made of white gold and has a diameter of 40.9 mm and a height of 12.8 mm. The brushed middle is sandwiched by the polished bezel on the front and back. The thin bezel on the front further emphasises the dialy and the movement. The sapphire crystal case back also provides an unobstructed view of the reverse of the movement.
Dial
The Hand Made 2 features several dials made of Grand Feu enamel. The material is known for its depth of colour and the way it reflects light, adding an extra dimension to the watch. The hour and minute hands, as well as the hand for the small seconds and the power reserve, are made of thermally blued steel, which gives them a characteristic hue and ensures good readability against the background.
Movement
The heart of the Hand Made 2 is the GF 06.01 caliber, a mechanical hand-wound movement. It consists of 270 components, 96% of which are entirely handmade. The movement offers a power reserve of 72 hours and operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz). One of the most remarkable features of the movement is the power reserve indicator that uses a hand-cut conical synthetic ruby and a roller to display the remaining energy. This unique feature not only serves a functional purpose but also highlights the watch’s commitment to traditional craftsmanship. There is also the handmade balance spring, which ensures perfect synchronization with the wheel. Each spring is crafted from a carefully selected alloy and individually adjusted by an experienced watchmaker.
Strap
The Hand Made 2 is fitted with a black suede leather strap. The strap is equipped with a white gold pin buckle, providing a secure hold.
Price & Availability
Due to the intensive manual labour and the limited production capacity, the Hand Made 2 is produced in very small numbers. Each year, Greubel Forsey can complete only two to three pieces of this model. The price of CHF 620,000 reflects the exclusivity and the high level of craftsmanship that goes into each watch.
