Watches & Wonders 2026: Panerai Launches the Luminor 31 Giorni PAM01631 With a 31-Day Power Reserve

In 2026, Panerai focuses on a theme that has long been central to the brand: extended power reserves. The new Luminor 31 Giorni PAM01631, which the Florentine watchmaker recently launched at Watches & Wonders 2026, is limited to 200 pieces and has a power reserve of 31 days. Aside from the Jupiterium, introduced last year with a 40-day power reserve, no other timepiece in the brand’s collection runs as long as the Luminor 31 Giorni.

This fits in with the brand’s history. Panerai originally came from a background of creating watches and instruments that functioned above all else. For military use, reliability, robustness, and the longest possible running time were more important than any design gimmicks. It was precisely this requirement that led Panerai to develop an early interest in movements with extended autonomy. The Angelus SF240, which had a power reserve of around eight days, was in use as early as the 1950s. It was later followed by the P.2002 and P.2003, Panerai’s own calibres with eight and ten days of power reserve respectively. The PAM01631 now takes this idea significantly further.

31 days from four mainsprings

The new hand-wound calibre P.2031/S beats inside the case. The movement is skeletonised, consists of 276 components, has 25 jewels, and delivers a total power reserve of 744 hours. This is made possible by four barrels connected in series, housing a total of 3.3 metres of mainspring. However, what is interesting is not only the pure running time, but also how Panerai solved the technical side of things. With the new, patent-pending torque limiter system, the brand deliberately uses only an optimised 31-day window from a theoretical total power reserve of 36 days. The idea behind this is that the watch should be supplied with energy as constantly as possible throughout its entire running time. After 31 days, it therefore stops deliberately, even though there would still be power reserve available according to the calculations.

Visually, the watch remains clearly recognisable as a Panerai. The 44-millimetre Luminor is crafted from Panerai’s renowned Goldtech alloy, a proprietary blend of gold, copper, platinum, and silver. This gives the case its warm, reddish hue. Added to this is an open dial that reveals parts of the movement without detracting from the classic Luminor aesthetic. The skeletonised construction, curved power reserve indicator and polarised date display at 3 o’clock give the watch depth without making it appear overloaded. For readability, Panerai uses white Super-LumiNova X2 on the hands and indices.

Function remains part of the concept

Despite its technical complexity, the PAM01631 remains true to the classic Panerai design with its large, striking appearance and clear focus on functionality. It is water-resistant to 10 bar, or around 100 metres. The watch comes with a black alligator strap. An additional black rubber strap is included. The PAM Click Release quick-change system allows the straps and strap halves to be exchanged without tools. The Luminor 31 Giorni will be available exclusively in Panerai monobrand boutiques.
