Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 days Acciaio 47 mm with an ivory or black dial
Panerai presents two new special editions with an original dial, inspired by one of the pendulum clocks which was offered in the windows of the historic store in the Piazza San Giovanni in Florence in the last century.
Since it was founded in 1860, Florence’s Orologeria Svizzera – as the Panerai family’s historic store was called – is a watch and clock retailer visited by Florence’s upper class. In fact, even before it created the first models for the Royal Italian Navy, the Panerai boutique was selling pocket watches, wristwatches, table clocks and magnificent pendulum clocks from the best makers. Its stock of these clocks was displayed on the first floor of the shop, which is still today situated facing the Baptistery of Florence.
The dial of one of these pendulum clocks was the original inspiration for a new creation in vintage style by the Panerai Manufacture: the Radiomir 1940 3 Days Acciaio. Available in two versions, with an ivory (Ref. PAM00791) or black dial (Ref. PAM00790), this new model has a simple but retro design. The dial is marked by large figures printed in an intriguing art deco font between the railway track chapter ring indicating the minutes and a smaller ring within it. The tapered, spear-shaped hour and minute hands appear in a Panerai model for the first time. All the other elements of the new special Edition are classic Panerai.

The case of the Radiomir 1940 3 Days Acciaio with 47 mm in diameter is made of AISI 316L stainless steel, an alloy that is particularly tough and resistant to corrosion. The watch is water-resistant to 10 bar, a depth of about 100 metres, with an overall polished finish and an open back through which the Manufacture movement can be seen. The bezel surrounds a slightly domed Plexiglas crystal, inspired by some of the historic Panerai models. The strap is made of natural leather with contrasting beige stitching and it is impressed with the OP logo.

The Radiomir 1940 3 Days Acciaio is powered by the P.3000 Manufacture calibre, which is hand-wound an has a power reserve of three days, due to its two spring barrels. Visible through the large crystal sapphire porthole in the back are the three brushed-finish bridges protecting the mechanism and the bridge with twin supports on which the balance 13.2 mm in diameter (3 Hz) is firmly mounted. The P.3000 movement also has the device by which the time can be swiftly adjusted: it enables the hour hand to be moved forwards or backwards in jumps of one hour at a time without interfering with the movement of the minute hand or the running of the watch.
A long power reserve of eight days, with an indicator of power remaining on the dial or back, enhances three new creations of the Panerai manufacture in Neuchâtel, available in titanium or steel, and also as the “historic“ left-handed version. The Luminor 8 Days Power Reserve Acciaio (PAM00795) uses the new P.5002 hand-wound calibre with a power reserve…
