Porsche Design and Hodinkee, the renowned watch platform, present the Chronograph 1 Hodinkee 2024 Edition. This watch reinterprets the iconic Chronograph 1, originally designed by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche in 1972, and marks the first chapter of a trilogy. Known for its timeless design, the Chronograph 1 was the first all-black wristwatch, emphasising functionality and readability akin to the cockpit of the Porsche 911. Limited to 350 pieces worldwide, the Chronograph 1 Hodinkee 2024 Edition merges the classic 1970s aesthetic with modern technology while celebrating the community of Hodinkee readers and watch enthusiasts.
Case: Black Titanium
The 40.80 mm case, crafted from ultra-durable and lightweight titanium, features a scratch-resistant black titanium carbide coating. The case back is adorned with the historic Porsche Design logo, the Porsche Design lettering, and the limited edition number, along with Hodinkee’s logo and the engraving “TRILOGY – CHAPTER 1.”
Dial: True to Original
The dial is a masterclass in legibility and design. Rendered in a deep matte black, it features contrasting white markers and hands, coated with Super-LumiNova for exceptional readability in low-light conditions. This luminous coating is designed to emulate the aged patina of vintage radium and tritium, giving the watch a distinct vintage character. A day-date window at 3 o’clock can display the day in both English and Japanese, honouring Hodinkee’s presents in the country. Additionally, the tachymeter scale on the rehaut features a “1 Mile” graphic, while the red “H” at 6 o’clock subtly nods to the Hodinkee logo.
Movement: Performance For The Wrist
At the heart of the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 Hodinkee 2024 Edition is the COSC-certified Porsche Design caliber WERK 01.140. This automatic movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), ensuring accurate timekeeping under various conditions. With 25 jewels reducing friction and wear, the movement guarantees a smooth operation and a robust 48-hour power reserve, providing ample energy for extended periods of non-wear.
