Richard Mille RM 16-02 Automatic Extraflat: Slim, Angular, Expensive
Richard Mille introduces the RM 16-02 Automatic Extraflat, a reimagining of the brand’s first rectangular watch, the RM 016, now equipped with the new in-house automatic calibre CRMA9. The latest model incorporates the well-known design codes of the brand, giving them a modern touch. The RM 16-02 impresses with its clean lines, which conceal a multitude of technical refinements.
Case
The case of the RM 16-02 is available in two versions: one crafted from satin-finished Grade 5 titanium and the other from Quartz TPT® in a new terracotta colour. Both materials are celebrated for their resilience and lightness. Measuring 36.00 x 9.50 x 45.64 mm, the case is 10% smaller than the original RM 016. The ultra-flat case is ergonomically designed, fitting the wrist perfectly. It is water-resistant to a depth of 30 metres.
Dial
The skeletonised dial of the RM 16-02 offers a view of the movement within. The hour markers are carefully designed, framing a fine line that traverses the intricate skeletonised labyrinth of the movement. The minute bridge, with its black PVD coating, contrasts sharply with the grey surface of the remaining dial.
Movement
Inside the RM 16-02 beats the CRMA9 calibre, a skeletonised automatic movement developed exclusively for this model. The baseplate and bridges are made of Grade 5 titanium and treated with a grey electroplasma finish. The bi-directional rotor is crafted from platinum and fitted with two weights made of Grade 5 titanium. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), the movement offers a power reserve of 50 hours.
Strap
The RM 16-02 is delivered with a strap that harmonises perfectly with its case. Depending on the version, the watch comes with either a cream-white or terracotta-coloured Richard Mille rubber strap.
