Tissot Launch its Celebrated PRX Powermatic 80 35 mm in Ice-Blue and Gold
Tissot’s PRXPowermatic 80 model has become a bestseller across the globe. Picking up on popular design codes from the Swiss watch industry, this crowd-pleasing, affordable automatic model is now appearing in a new 35 mm iteration. Showcasing either an ice-blue or radiant gold colour palette, the new editions are likely to further spread the appeal of this already in-demand Tissot timepiece.
The dial
As mentioned, the new 35 mm PRX Powermatic 80 models come with either an ice-blue or gold dial. While the former evokes a bright, crisp winter morning, the latter takes its inspiration from the glittering era of 70s disco. Most notably for watch-lovers, the dials’ waffle design distinguishes these dainty automatic watches from their quartz siblings, which have subtler sunburst dials. For round-the-clock legibility, Tissot give the indices as well as the hour and minute hands a Super-LumiNova coating.
The case
The models are housed in sized-down 35 mm stainless-steel cases. The gold dial version’s case opts for a PVD-coating to achieve its glowing colour while maintaining a competitive price. Polished and satin-finished details add further refinement to both cases, which, just like their 40 mm siblings, offer water-resistance to 100 m. The height of the new 35 mm PRX watches also stays the same at 11.3 mm.
The movement
Naturally, the fact that the 35 mm watches come with an automatic movement is something to celebrate. The movement powering the sought-after PRX models is of course the eponymous ‘Powermatic 80’ calibre, which is visible via the caseback. The mechanical movement with automatic winding has a long 80-hour power reserve. Furthermore, it offers the wearer access to view the hours, minutes, seconds and date (sitting neatly at 3 o’clock). In addition, the calibre integrates a Nivachron hairspring – with its resistance to temperature and excellent shock resistance, the Swiss-made hairspring helps the watch to remain as accurate as possible.
Price and strap
Last but not least, the new Tissot PRXPowermatic 80 35 mm models come on a bracelet matching to the respective case colours, and operates via a three-piece folding clasp. Thanks to a quick-release system, wearers can easily swap out the bracelet in favour of a strap. The price of the ice-blue steel version is a very competitive 745 euros, while its gold-coloured sibling is available for875 euros.
