With the new 544 and 544 RS models, the Frankfurt-based brand consistently upholds its philosophy of practical functionality and robust construction within a timeless design, launching two timepieces that focus entirely on the essentials.
In the 544 and 544 RS models from Sinn Spezialuhren, minimalist design meets the essential functions of a classic wristwatch: hour, minute, and date displays. The difference between the two versions is minimal—and is evident solely in the color of the central seconds hand.
With a diameter of 38.5 millimeters and a height of 10 millimeters, the stainless steel case has a pleasantly compact design. The velvety, bead-blasted finish underscores the watch’s functional character.
Water resistance up to 20 bar is ensured by a screw-down case back and the D3 system (“direct double sealing”) developed by Sinn. This system eliminates the need for additional sleeves and instead relies on high-precision guidance of the push-piece pins and crown shafts directly within the case bore.
In addition, both watches are designed to withstand negative pressure. While water resistance is designed to withstand increased external pressure, a drop in ambient pressure—such as at high altitudes—presents the opposite challenge: the pressure inside the case acts outward. Sinn addresses this scenario with a reinforced press fit that securely holds the sapphire crystal in place. This is particularly relevant during rapid pressure changes in professional use.
Protected in this way, the Sellita SW200-2 automatic movement, visible through the sapphire crystal case back, offers proven precision with a 60-hour power reserve.
The matt black dial beneath the sapphire crystal provides the backdrop for the deliberate design feature that distinguishes the 544 from the 544 RS. We are referring to the central seconds hand – one in white and one in red, both coated with luminescent paint.
Hand-applied hybrid ceramic luminescent elements ensure optimal readability. Their integration into the ceramic moulded part results in an exceptionally high concentration of luminescent pigments – a prerequisite for intense luminosity and easy readability, even in poor lighting conditions.
The Made in Germany models 544 and 544 RS are available with a choice of leather, stainless steel or silicone straps. The prices are €1,390 (leather, silicone) and €1,740 (stainless steel) respectively.
