TAG Heuer is celebrating its 160th anniversary by revamping its TAG Heuer Carrera chronograph watches. The four sporty, redesigned Carrera Sport Chronograph 44 mm models are as follows: black dial with black ceramic bezel (CBN2A1B.BA0643), blue dial with blue ceramic bezel (CBN2A1A.BA0643), green dial with stainless-steel bezel (CBN2A10.BA0643), or black dial with black bezel, plus rose-gold details (CBN2A5A.FC6481). Additionally, the brand has introduced the 2020 TAG Heuer Carrera 160 Years Silver and TAG Heuer Carrera 160 Years Montreal both of which are limited editions.
The new watches pay tribute to Jack Heuer’s vision of creating clean, modern, and well-proportioned Carrera chronographs – principally making life easier for racing drivers wearing the watch. The models aim to follow these principles while still showcasing a timeless yet sporty design.
The stainless-steel Carrera Sport Chronograph 44 mm cases are fine-brushed and polished, allowing the watches to look sleeker and slimmer. Furthermore, the cases now have shorter lugs to attach to the matching bracelet, making the chronograph watches more comfortable to wear.
Meanwhile, the brushed dial comes in either bright green (CBN2A10.BA0643), blue (CBN2A1A.BA0643) or black (CBN2A1B.BA0643 and CBN2A5A.FC6481). All of them have correspondingly matching “azurage” (snailed) subdial hour and minute counters. The chronograph seconds are shown via a rhodium-plated central hand, while the 12-hour counter is at 9 o’clock, and the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. Meanwhile, small seconds are visible on an opaline subdial at 6 o’clock, along with the small date window.
The three models with blue or black dials have matching blue or black ceramic fixed tachymeter bezels. However, the green dial edition’s (CBN2A10.BA0643) bezel is stainless steel. Meanwhile, protecting the watches is a domed and bevelled sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment – again, important for racing drivers. The screw-down caseback also uses sapphire crystal, allowing for a view of the calibre.
The Carrera Sport Chronograph 44 mm watches’ hour and minute hands plus the applied indexes are rhodium-plated with black lacquer details. However, the black dial edition with rose-gold details (CBN2A5A.FC6481) is an exception. It uses 5N 18-carat rose-gold plating on the indexes, hour and minute hands, as well as the central seconds hand and even the logo. Furthermore, its fixed ceramic tachymeter bezel is filled with rose-gold lacquer – a first for the watchmaker. Additionally, the watches are legible 24/7. This is thanks to the inclusion of white Super-LumiNova, which glows green in the dark.
Powering the four new models is the automatic Heuer 02, which is visible through the caseback. As well as integrating a column wheel and vertical clutch for accuracy during timekeeping, it offers a frequency of 4 Hz. Moreover, the calibre has an 80-hour power reserve.
Finally, the three Carrera Sport Chronograph 44 mm models with stainless-steel details (CBN2A1B.BA0643, CBN2A1A.BA0643, and CBN2A10.BA0643) are presented on matching stainless-steel bracelets, while the fourth version (CBN2A5A.FC6481) comes with a black alligator leather strap. Both the bracelets and the strap are operated via a stainless-steel clasp with double safety push-buttons. The watches are all water-resistant to 100 m. They are priced as follows: 5,450 euros (CBN2A1B.BA0643, CBN2A1A.BA0643, CBN2A10.BA0643), or 6,200 euros (CBN2A5A.FC6481).
