To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the brand, Hublot is releasing three limited editions. They take inspiration from the 1980 Classic Original model, yet also incorporate more modern elements. The minimalist models are available in 18-carat yellow gold, titanium, or black ceramic cases, and are accompanied by a black rubber strap.
The History
The 1980 Classic Original was the brainchild of Hublot’s Italian founder, Carlo Crocco, who envisioned a practical, robust and wearable model for all occasions. At the time, Hublot was the first watch brand to combine precious gold with the modern material rubber, which was developed in its own workshops. This move away from conventional materials came to symbolise Hublot’s approach to Haute Horlogerie.
The Watch
The new models aim to capture the elegance of the1980 Classic Fusion Original, while also showcasing the brand’s achievements in innovation over the past four decades. Therefore, the case features the recognisable six exposed screws on the bezel and a sapphire crystal caseback. The polished and satin-finished cases all measure 45 mm in diameter.
Meanwhile, the black lacquered and polished dial keeps things simple and minimalist. Its only features are faceted hands displaying hour and minutes, plus an appliqué Hublot and H logo, which is also present on the seconds hand.
The open caseback exposes the movement, which is Hublot’s in-house calibre HUB1112. The automatic movement as a frequency of 4 Hz and a 42-hour power reserve. It consists of 63 components, as well as 21 jewels. Moreover, it provides hours, minutes, seconds, as well as a date function. Furthermore, the yellow-gold version’s caseback reads: ‘LIMITED EDITION’ plus the watches number out of 100, while the titanium and black version read the same, plus the watch’s number out of 200.
Finally, the three watches are presented on a smooth black rubber strap, with a deployant buckle that matches their respective case materials. The cases provide water-resistance to 100 m. The yellow-gold edition is a limited edition of 100 pieces and costs 23,900 Swiss francs. Meanwhile, 200 pieces each of the titanium and black ceramic versions are available, and their respective prices are 7,900 CHF and 9,900 CHF.
