Founded in Florence in 1860, Panerai developed from a workshop with an adjoining shop, and later a watchmaking school, into an important partner of the Royal Italian Navy. From the 1910s onwards, the company began producing its first precision instruments, before the reference 2533, the first prototype diving watch with a luminescent Radiomir dial, was created in 1935. For decades, Panerai remained a confidential supplier of military service watches and instruments. It was only in 1993 that key technical characteristics such as strong luminosity, water resistance, a long power reserve and robust construction became accessible to a wider public with the first civilian models.

To mark the 90th birthday of Eilean, a Bermuda ketch designed and built in 1936 by the Scottish shipyard Fife of Fairlie, Panerai is now celebrating the yacht’s return to the international stage of classic regattas. Eilean last took part there in 2018. In doing so, the brand is also continuing its long-standing connection with sailing: as early as 2000, Panerai began sponsoring the Laureus Regatta Panerai Trophy in Monaco, followed in 2005 by the introduction of the Classic Yachts Challenge, an annual regatta series for classic yachts in which Eilean became a regular presence from 2010 onwards.

The new Eilean season begins on 15 May 2026 in Viareggio, Italy, with a ceremonial launch at Cantiere del Carlo, a shipyard specialising in the construction and restoration of classic wooden yachts. The yacht will then take part in a series of regattas, first taking her to the Côte d’Azur before continuing on to Italy and Spain, and ultimately concluding her journey in Cannes. This comeback is accompanied by the Panerai Radiomir Bronzo PAM00760 – a watch that embodies Panerai’s Radiomir history in both its aesthetics and construction, and one to which we shall now turn our attention.

The Case of the New Panerai Radiomir Bronzo PAM00760

The new model presents a distinctive bronze case with a large diameter of 47 mm. Its case pays tribute to the historic reference 2533, whose case was originally used in 1935 for a prototype diving watch created for the Italian Navy.

The bronze used for this new model is also Panerai’s own alloy, composed of pure copper and pure tin. This composition allows a natural patina to form on the surface. When new, the material has a gold-like tone, which gradually changes under external influences such as air, humidity, heat and friction. As a result, each watch develops its own individual appearance over time. Executed in a Radiomir design defined by its vintage aesthetic, the Panerai Radiomir Bronzo PAM00760 is water-resistant to 10 bar, or around 100 metres.

The Dial of the Panerai Radiomir Bronzo PAM00760

The new Panerai Radiomir Bronzo PAM00760 features a shaded green dial with a grainy surface and a pronounced gradient that transitions from a lighter centre to a darker outer edge. The Arabic numerals and hour markers are recessed into the dial and filled with beige Super-LumiNova, which emits a green glow in the dark.

The blued steel hands provide a clear contrast against the textured surface. Historically, bluing was used to protect against corrosion while also improving legibility; today, the characteristic blue tone is achieved through controlled oxidation at around 300 degrees Celsius. The dial is protected by a domed acrylic crystal, whose design is intended to recall early Panerai diving watches with fluorescent Radiomir dials, once produced for the Italian Navy.

The Movement of the Panerai Radiomir Bronzo PAM00760

In 1997, Panerai was acquired by the luxury group Richemont, and since 2002 the watch brand has been producing its movements and watches at its manufacture in Neuchâtel. Turning over the Panerai Radiomir Bronzo PAM00760 reveals a titanium caseback with a sapphire crystal display back, offering a view of one of the movements developed and produced at the manufacture.

Visible through the back is the hand-wound calibre P.3000, which features two barrels mounted in series, providing the movement with a power reserve of three days, while the Glucydur balance oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. The Glucydur balance is a type of balance developed in the 1930s and made from a copper-based alloy. With a hardness of 380 Vickers, compared with 220 Vickers for a nickel balance and 180 Vickers for a brass balance, it can be riveted, poised and finely adjusted more effectively.

Calibre P.3000 also offers a practical function for rapid time setting: in the first pulled position of the winding crown, the hour hand can be moved forwards or backwards in precise one-hour increments without altering the position of the minute hand.

Price & Availability of the Panerai Radiomir Bronzo PAM00760

The Panerai Radiomir Bronzo PAM00760 is completed by a dark brown rolled calfskin strap, whose restrained vintage design underlines the historical character of the Radiomir. This is complemented by a trapezoidal bronze pin buckle, which also recalls early Panerai watches. In addition, the watch comes with a second crystal, which can be exchanged once, free of charge, at any Panerai boutique or authorised retailer worldwide. The watch is priced at EUR 19,500.
