OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Co-Axial Master Chronometer 42 mm Calibre 3861
OMEGA is launching a new generation of the famous OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. The horology house is presenting a total of eight different new variants, including with gold cases and a nylon strap.
The new iteration replaces the previous model, and differs both inside and out. For the first time, the classic OMEGA Moonwatch is being powered by a Co-Axial calibre, while the case shape is inspired by the first Speedmaster Professional on the moon. As usual, the new edition also appears in two versions – with hesalite crystal and a solid case back, or with sapphire crystal and an exhibition caseback.

New case shape, “Dot over 90”, and dial changes
The case of the new OMEGA Speedmaster ProfessionalMoonwatch is inspired by the ST 105.012, worn by the Apollo 11 astronauts on the Moon in 1969. The asymmetrical shape has remained. New features include the flat chronograph pushers, the double bevel caseback, and “dot over 90” bezel. The watch’s water-resistance remains unchanged at 5 bar (50 m).
Moonwatch new versus old
The dial has also been redesigned. Using the “Step Dial” style – a slight elevation in the centre – OMEGA references the space era. Furthermore, the minute track has three, instead of five, graduations, which is related to the changed frequency of the calibre. The hands shine in the same white tone as before, however the “teardrop” of the chronograph seconds hand has moved a little closer towards the minute track.
OMEGA Moonwatch: Now with a Co-Axial calibre
Inside the new OMEGA Moonwatch is the in-house calibre 3861 with Co-Axial escapement, which is already used in the OMEGA Moonwatch Apollo 11 50th Anniversary and the recently launched OMEGA Moonwatch Apollo 13 50th Anniversary Snoopy. The calibre offers a power reserve of 50 hours, and the winding is manual.
As usual, the chronograph mechanism is implemented with a horizontal clutch. The free-sprung balance offers a spring made of silicon and beats with a frequency of 3 Hz. The new calibre allowed the new Moonwatch to obtain the METAS certificate, which makes it a master chronometer and attests to its high precision, anti-magnetism and durability.
Steel bracelet with five links per row
The OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is presented on a new steel bracelet, which with its satin-finished buckle and a polished OMEGA logo is meant to be reminiscent of older Speedmaster models. The five links in a row now have different dimensions, with the center piece being the largest. On the hesalite variant, all the links are brushed, while on the sapphire crystal variant, the links next to the centerpiece are polished.
The new generation of the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch appears in eight different variants – including the two variants with steel case and steel bracelet described here. The model with hesalite crystal is available at a price of 6,100 euros. The sapphire crystal model costs 7,000 euros.
