Together with Aston Martin, Girard Perregaux presents the Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges – Aston Martin Limited Edition. This watch is the result of the partnership between the two brands and thus combines motorsport with watchmaking. With a case made of lightweight titanium, the watch remains as discreet as Aston Martin’s elegant British sports cars. The watch dispenses with a dial to showcase the movement, which is attached to three flying bridges. Elsewhere, the watch comes with a leather strap with rubber and gold inserts. However, with a strict limitation of 18 pieces, the watch is reserved for only a few lucky customers.
The Partnership
The recently announced partnership between Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux is based on shared values such as a passion for craftsmanship and aesthetics. As a first step, the watchmaker’s logo adorns the cars of the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One team in the Formula 1. They now present this Aston Martin Limited Edition, the first timepiece to emerge from the partnership.
Case & Materials of the Aston Martin Limited Edition
The Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges is housed in a 44 mm case made of grade 5 titanium. This alloy is particularly sturdy yet light. For this reason, Aston Martin also uses this material in vehicle construction. With a height of 15.52 mm, the timepiece sits robustly on the wrist. The case also has a black DLC coating, which gives the watch its discreet appearance. In addition, both the front and the back feature box sapphire crystal, which allows the wearer to view the inside.
The Aston Martin Limited Edition has no Dial
The Aston Martin Limited Edition dispenses with a dial altogether, making the inner workings of the watch the main attraction. Instead, two Dauphine hands in white gold with a black coating indicate the time. For this purpose, there are indices on the periphery, which, like the hands, are luminescent. To indicate the seconds, the 6 o’clock tourbillon has a blued hand.
Movement
The movement here does not rest on a plate, as is usually the case, but is instead attached to three floating bridges. These are a Girard-Perregaux trademark and are also made of titanium. The manufacture also does not miss the opportunity to give them polished angles. The flying bridges not only create an airy appearance. It also provides a clear view of the movement parts that normally remain concealed.
At 12 o’clock, for example, you can see the barrel, which presents part of the mainspring through the skeletonisation. The latter has a power reserve of 60 hours. Underneath is a microrotor that winds the watch. The rotor consists of white gold and bears Aston Martin lettering that glows in the dark. At 6 o’clock is a tourbillon that consists of 79 parts and has a diameter of 10 mm. The manufacture has taken care to make the cage as light as possible in order to reduce energy consumption. The balance beats at a frequency of 3 hertz.
Strap with rubber insert
Girard Perregaux presents the watch on a strap made of black calfskin. However, it has a rubber middle section in which white gold is injected. With the design, the watchmakers want to recall the racing cars of Aston Martin. In addition, Girard Perregaux includes another strap made of alligator leather with the watch, which secures on the wrist with a titanium folding clasp.
Price and Availability
The Girard Perregaux Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges – Aston Martin Limited Edition is limited to 18 pieces. The watch is now available from authorised Girard Perregaux dealers. The price is 145,000 euros in Germany.
