Watch manufacturer Zenith presents a new addition to the futuristic DEFY collection. The Zenith DEFY Skyline has an angular, architectural stainless steel case and its dial is reminiscent of the starry sky above a city. The watch appears in no less than three variants with either a blue, black or silver dial. With its 1/10 second display, it reminds the wearer of the fleeting nature of time. The feature is made possible by a new movement, which is also visible through the case back. The new model appears on an integrated steel bracelet, which can be exchanged for an included rubber strap without the need for tools.
The Bold Case is Based on Legacy DEFY Designs
The futuristic exterior of the new DEFY Skyline harks back to the octagonal shape of earlier DEFY models such as the A3642. Here, the straight lines and satin-finished stainless steel create a striking, angular look. The case measures 41 millimeters in diameter with a height of 11.60 millimeters, making it a perfect fit for the times. Only the faceted bezel with its polished flanks breaks with the rustic character of the satin finish. With the screw-down crown, the watch achieves a water resistance of 100 meters, which should ensure its suitability for everyday use. Moreover, on the back, the modern movement is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.
With The DEFY’s Dial The Starry Sky is Within Reach
The dial in blue, black or silver bears a geometric pattern of four-pointed stars. This pattern is a reinterpretation of the “Double Z” logo from the 1960s. Here, however, it evokes night skies over a bustling city. Two wide, faceted hands with Super-LumiNova coating indicate the time. In addition, there are also hour indexes in the same style around the dial. On the subdial at 9 o’clock, a small hand completes one rotation every ten seconds, measuring fractions of a second. At the same time, the display reminds the wearer of the fleeting nature of time with its brisk motion. Zenith also gives the DEFY Skyline a date window at 3 o’clock.
The New Movement Inside The Zenith DEFY Skyline
The DEFY Skyline uses the new El Primero 3620 caliber, which is similar to the El Primero 3600 movement in the Chronomaster Sport. Here, too, it operates at a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, or 5 hertz. This allows the movement to measure time down to the tenth of a second, which also enables the subdial’s function. The watch also features automatic winding and a power reserve of approximately 60 hours. The rotor here winds in both directions and features a star decoration. Last but not least, the manufacture integrates a stop-second mechanism for accurate time setting.
Integrated Steel Bracelet And Interchangeable Strap System
All three variants of the DEFY Skyline appear on an integrated steel bracelet with a satin finish and beveled and polished edges. Alternatively, the company includes a rubber strap with a star pattern. The blue dial model comes with a matching strap in blue, the black dial has a black strap and the silver dial model gets an olive green strap. With the interchangeable strap system, the bands can be replaced quickly and without the need for tools.
