OMEGA Speedmaster ’57 Calibre 9906 And Moonwatch in Moonshine Gold
OMEGA is updating the Speedmaster ’57 and, at the same time, is presenting two Moonwatch models made of the in-house Moonshine Gold alloy. The former is now slightly flatter and is equipped with a manual calibre that also makes the watch a Master Chronometer. The Moonwatch made of the exclusive gold alloy is available with a green dial or entirely in gold.
The OMEGA Speedmaster ’57 Calibre 9906
OMEGA is presenting no fewer than eight new variants of the Speedmaster ’57, which is equipped with a Co-Axial movement and can now call itself a Master Chronometer. In addition to a special model with a “sandwich” dial, a blue, green and burgundy model also find their way into the collection. The watches measure 40.5 mm in diameter and 12.99 mm in height and are thus flatter than the classic Moonwatch.
The vintage-inspired model is the closest to the historic Speedmaster. The black “sandwich” dial has recesses filled with fauxtina luminous material. The same applies to the hands, which also glow green in the dark. The other three dials have a blue or green PVD coating or are painted burgundy. While a small seconds sits at 9 o’clock, the display at 3 o’clock combines the 60-minute and 12-hour counters. In addition, there is a date at 6 o’clock.
The 9906 calibre can be viewed through the sapphire crystal case back. To make the watch flatter, the watchmakers have dispensed with an automatic winding mechanism. However, energy can be supplied by hand up to a maximum power autonomy of 60 hours. The co-axial movement integrates a chronograph, which operates by means of a column wheel. With the new movement, the OMEGA Speedmaster ’57 now also passes the Master Chronometer requirements and boasts a corresponding METAS certificate.
The watches are available on stainless steel bracelets that have a comfort extension. In addition, there are colour-matched leather straps with pin buckles. The new OMEGA Speedmaster ’57 costs 8,600 euros on the leather strap and 9,000 euros on the stainless steel bracelet.
The OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch in Moonshine Gold
The classic OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional appears twice in a case made of Moonshine Gold. The alloy consists of 75% gold and has a paler hue and a longer-lasting shine. OMEGA is presenting a version with a green dial on the one hand and a model with a Moonshine Gold dial on the other.
The green dial is created through a PVD coating. The bezel on this model is made of green ceramic to match. The gold dial, on the contrary, is combined with a bezel ring made of black ceramic. On this model, the sub-dials appear in contrasting black, while on the other dial they are in the same shade of green. Inside both new chronographs is the same calibre 3861 that powers the steel Moonwatch. It has to be wound manually and offers a power autonomy of 50 hours. Last but not least, the watches bear the METAS certificate, which guarantees corresponding accuracy.
The two variants of the OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch in Moonshine Gold are each available with a Moonshine Gold bracelet. Alternatively, there is a matching green leather strap for the watch with a green dial. The gold dial can be combined with a black rubber strap. The rubber strap has a texture on the back that is reminiscent of the surface of the moon and is equipped with a folding clasp.
The price for the OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch with a green dial is 25,600 euros on a leather strap and 36,100 euros on a gold bracelet. For the watch with a gold dial, the price is 27,400 euros on a rubber strap and 37,900 euros on a gold bracelet.
