With this new model the Swiss watch brand Tudor combines two of its specialities: the world of professional diving and the one of motorsports. The new Black Bay Chrono S&G (Ref. 79363N), presented on the Swiss watch fair Baselworld 2019, is Tudor’s first chronograph with a self-winding Manufacture Calibre, column wheel and vertical clutch available in an S&G version. Since 1970, when the manufacture introduced the model Oysterdate, Tudor kept developing watches with a tight connection to motorsports. As well the brand’s diving watches have been improved for the last 65 years. For the first time though the brand now presented a connection of both worlds with the hybrid model Black Bay Chrono S&G.

The spirit of land and sea
All in the spirit of the ‘Black Bay line’ the Black Bay Chrono S&G as well is equipped with the famous “snowflake” hands – the signature of Tudors divers’ watches since 1969 – in a gold version. Due to the domed matt-black dial reading the watch is made easy. Its counters are hollowed and their champagne-colour creates optimum contrast. At the 6 o’clock position the date indication is located – following the Tudor chronograph tradition. With a slim 41-millimetre steel case and yellow-gold pushers inspired by the very first generation of Tudor chronographs the main ‘Black Bay’ characteristics are retained. A fixed bezel in yellow gold with a black anodised aluminium insert and tachymetric scale completes the face of the sporty chronograph.
Manufacture Chronograph Calibre MT5813
The model Black Bay Chrono S&G is equipped with the the Manufacture Chronograph Calibre MT5813 and ensures a 70-hour power reserve. As well the watch has a silicon balance spring. It was designed with a column-wheel mechanism and vertical clutch – corresponding to watchmaking tradition. To guarantee robustness and reliability extreme tests were applied to this watch, as to all Tudor products. Other than that the model is certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).

The chronograph caliber of the Black Bay Chrono S&G derived from the Manufacture chronograph calibre BREITLING 01, which has a high-precision regulating organ developed by Tudor and dedicated finishes. It is the result of a cooperation of both brands, who work together in construction and production of certain mechanical movements to pool their expertise.
Jacquard, stainless steel or bund strap
Tudor was one of the first manufactures, who offered fabric straps und made these its signature this way. The Black Bay Chrono S&G as well has a fabric strap in a black version, which was chosen by Tudor and woven on 19th-century Jacquard looms by a 150-year-old family firm from the region of St-Etiennein France. The model is also available with a steel and yellow gold bracelet inspired by the folding riveted bracelets of Tudor watches produced in the 1950’s and 60’s. These straps were particularly known for their rivet heads for attaching the links, shown on the side of the bracelet, as well as a stepped construction – two details as well incorporated into the new model’s steel strap. Other than that the Black Bay Chrono S&G offers a bund type option in brown aged leather with ecru stitching and a folding clasp in the spirit of 1970’s racing.
