Roger Dubuis Excalibur Double Tourbillon und Monobalancier: Black Ceramic
With the Excalibur Monobalancier and Double Tourbillon, Roger Dubuis is presenting two new variants made of black ceramic. With these watches, the manufacture is venturing into the production of cases made of ceramic for the first time. The material is notoriously difficult to work with, which significantly lengthens the production process. Moreover, the watchmakers did not compromise and insisted on retaining the brand’s typical case shapes. The result is two expressive timepieces that are extremely durable.
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Monobalancier
The Excalibur Monobalancier measures 42 mm in diameter and appears in shiny black ceramic. The case features clear lines, a fluted bezel and triple lugs. The open dial is dominated by the Roger Dubuis star, which also serves as a bridge for the parts of the movement. Around the centre, however, winds a minute track with luminous indices. The hands that indicate the hours and minutes also have luminous material which should aid legibility.
The calibre RD720SQ in this Roger Dubuis Excalibur offers automatic winding by microrotor. The maximum power reserve is 72 hours. The watchmakers increased the frequency of the balance to 4 hertz, which enhances precision. Thanks to new lubricating oils, the longevity of the mechanism is also improving. The watch bears the strict Geneva Seal, which guarantees extremely high quality of all parts. The Excalibur Monobalancier comes on a black calfskin strap with a folding clasp. The wearer can also change the strap without tools using the quick-change mechanism.
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Double Tourbillon
The case of the Excalibur Double Tourbillon measures 45 mm in diameter and captivates with its glossy black ceramic surface. The case has a slightly different crown protection, but otherwise builds on the Monobalancier. Here, too, the open dial attracts all attention. Only the minute track remains, on which are luminous indices. The time is also indicated by open hands with luminous material. The eye-catcher, however, is the mechanism itself. There is also a Roger Dubuis star that appears to float over the movement.
The RD10 calibre integrates two tourbillons. These are connected to a differential that transmits the average rate to the hands. Some technical modifications have also increased the power reserve to 72 hours. The energy comes in by hand. This model also bears the Hallmark of Geneva. The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Double Tourbillon comes on a calfskin strap with a folding clasp. However, the wearer can replace it quickly and easily using the strap exchange system. The model is a limited edition of 88 pieces. The price is 276,500 euros.
